As the two worked together on the movie set, rumors began emerging last summer that Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell were romantically involved. The actress denied any such speculations and put an end to all the rumors as she got engaged to Ned Wolfgang Kelly. Recently, Hayley Atwell once again opened up about her rumored relationship with Tom Cruise, blaming the tabloids for brewing fake scenarios.

Tabloids suggested that Hayley Atwell and Tom Cruise had been in an on-again-off-again relationship as they filmed for Dead Reckoning. However, Atwell denied those rumors stating that while she loves Cruise (and the rest of the Dead Reckoning team), it is only platonic.

“What I feel is the truly extraordinary power of platonic love, which seems to be sometimes under-represented. And my love for Tom, my love for [Christopher] McQuarrie, my love for the process of this [Mission], and also the people who they keep very close to them and who are very present on set, has a wholesomeness to it. That for me, I just found so beautiful.”

Atwell, once again, discussed her rumored romance with Hollywood’s heartthrob. Talking to Telegraph, the Cinderella actress stated that such rumors weren’t surprising as what the tabloids say is out of her control. However, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t disappointing.

“It’s tabloid journalism. Part of the machine that’s beyond my control. It doesn’t surprise me but it’s disappointing…It doesn’t come into the set life in any way. The only thing that I read about him that was true was that he ate two curries while they were filming in Birmingham.”

Just a few months back, Atwell got engaged to Ned Wolfgang Kelly, a music producer. Taking to social media to announce the news, Wolfgang Kelly stated that he had no interest in getting married before he met Atwell.

Atwell did not let the rumors surrounding her relationship with Cruise turn their bond bitter. The actress has nothing but good words for her co-star, someone she likes to compare to Peter Pan. In the interview with Telegraph, Atwell praised Cruise’s extraordinary charisma stating,

“It’s agreed across the board how polite he is, how well mannered – he’s just got extraordinary charisma. His intensity is like passion. He has this childlike energy, he’s like Peter Pan in a pinball machine. He’s a natural extrovert and he’s clearly very comfortable with who he is. “

Cruise and Atwell will soon be seen alongside in the newest addition to the Mission: Impossible franchise. And according to Atwell, Cruise’s Ethan Hunt and her Grace will be in a cat-and-mouse type of relationship. Looking forward to it!

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One will be released in theatres on July 12, 2023.
