The daughter of Thanos wants to play Poison Ivy in James Gunn’s DCU. Marvel star Karen Gillan has expressed her wish to join Gunn’s DCU to play the famous Batman foe. After many MCU actors have joined ranks in Gunn’s DCU, Gillan could play the titular supervillain in the upcoming Arkham Asylum series.
In an interview, Gillan stated that she would love to play the seductress on screen. More specifically, she stated that she wants to portray the version of Poison Ivy in a relationship with Harley Quinn.
Poison Ivy & Harley Quinn – A Match Made in Arkham
Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn have played foes but, more notably, friends and even more. The characters first appeared together in Batman: The Animated Series in the episode titled “Harley and Ivy” and in the comic issue Batman: No Man’s Land. They both first joined forces in Gotham City Sirens in 2009, along with Catwoman.
It was Harley Quinn #8 in 2015 that Quinn and Ivy became open about their relationship and lived together. The duo further had a wedding in Injustice: Zero Dawn. In 2019, the Kaley Cuoco-led animated series Harley Quinn further dealt with the duo relationship, with both of them eventually ending together.
The series explored the characters living together and aiding each other in their maniacal plans. The chemistry between Quinn and Ivy was loved by fans for the non-hypersexual and de-fetishized portrayal of LGBTQ couples. Moreover, the relationship also helped Harley Quinn deal with her past trauma and abusive relationship with Joker and evolve from one of Joker’s lackeys to an individual character in her own right.
A Peek Into The Future
Karen Gillan has long stated her wish to play the iconic green villain on screen now that her character of Nebula has come to an end with Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy: Vol.3. Gillan appeared in the Guardians Trilogy, Guardians: Christmas Special, Thor: God of Thunder, and What If along with Avengers: Infinity War & Avengers: Endgame.
James Gunn has already announced a Batman movie tentatively titled Batman: The Brave and The Bold in the upcoming slate of DCU projects. The movie will focus on an older iteration of Batman along with other members of the Bat family, further instigating the role of Batman’s coterie of supervillains.
Gillan could have a brief appearance as Poison Ivy in the movie. Moreover, Matt Reeve‘s The Batman spinoff, the Arkham Asylum TV series, is under the writing process and could be the best place to feature Gillan’s Ivy. However, as of now, whether Reeve’s The Batman Universe coincides with Gunn’s DCU remains to be unanswered.
