In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Zoe Saldana discussed Avatar 3 and expressed her gratitude toward Cameron.

Yeah, I mean, we’re gonna go back this summer and finish it up. We’re 70% done there. But, we have time.”

Confirming the film is more than halfway done, fans won’t have to wait too long to go back into the mystical world of Pandora. Saldana also praised the Canadian filmmaker:

We bet on him over and over again. And I’m proud of him. I’m proud of the entire team. I feel so lucky to be a part of something that gets to really change lives and cinema’s history. I just love it.”

Cameron confirmed to THR in the past that Avatar 3 has finished filming. This could mean that Saldana’s update pertains to post-production work.

We’ll probably finish movie three regardless because it’s all shot.”

The director has got the whole plan for the movies mapped out, although he leaves room for unexpected circumstances and treads carefully, considering the budget of the giant franchise.

We’d have to really crater for it not to seem like it was worth the additional investment. We’d have to leave a smoking hole in the ground. Now, hopefully, we get to tell the whole thing because five’s better than four, four’s better than three, and three’s better than two.”

With James Cameron’s confirmation and Zoe Saldana’s latest update on the progress of Avatar 3, fans will be thrilled to know they won’t be waiting far too long as it is slated for a December 2024 release.

Delays are naturally common when it comes to making films, and while the studio has released a window for the film’s premiere, it is still tentative. Producing a movie as demanding as Avatar requires lots of time and energy, so the space between now and the target release date will serve as the time for polishing the film to perfection.

The plot for the third installment has still kept a mystery, although Cameron has previously revealed a new set of villains to appear in the movie. The Ash people or the Fire Na’vi will serve as the main antagonists in Avatar 3, showing a different side of the inhabitants of Pandora.

There have been rumors as well of a nine-hour cut of Avatar 3 to be released on Disney+ shortly after the film’s theatrical release.
