Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors are two rising Hollywood stars thanks to their success with Creed 3. Both of them are part of the MCU as well. However, Jordan has bid farewell to the Marvel universe while Majors is just beginning his stint with the biggest cinematic universe. However, fans want both of them to join the DC universe as its premiere hero- Superman. Encouraging this vision is a viral artwork depicting the actors as two iconic Black men of steel.

Shared on Instagram by artist Bobby Art, the artwork shows Jonathan Majors and Michael B. Jordan costumed as the Calvin Ellis and Val-Zod versions of Superman. The original artist captioned the post as:

“My concept art of Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors as the Val Zod and Calvin Ellis’ Supermen. Both of them are great actors and want to work with each other, and I would love to see them play the Black Supermen in the DCU’s Elseworlds universes.”

Tom Taylor and Nicola Scott created Val-Zod, who appeared in the Earth-2 #19 comics in 2014 while Grant Morrison and Doug Mahnke developed Calvin Ellis. He debuted in the Final Crisis #7 comics. One of the major differences between them is that the latter is also the U.S. President of his Earth. However, the main question is, will we ever see the two actors play these iterations of the last son of Krypton in live-action?

It’s unlikely that we will see Jonathan Majors suit up as Calvin Ellis or any other version of Superman in the near future because he is already busy being MCU’s Kang. As for Michael B. Jordan, he was rumored to be attached to a Val-Zod HBO Max series in July 2021. However, there hasn’t been any updates on that project yet. Recently, in an interview with CinemaBlend, he was asked if he was involved with the Val-Zod project anymore.

While the actor acknowledged the question, his publicist came in to say, “We can’t talk about that, sorry.” This isn’t the first time he has directly avoided answering a question related to the alternate Superman project. During an Entertainment Tonight interview he was asked the same question but coyly said, “You said that, I ain’t say that. I don’t even know about no rumors about that one.” His evasiveness could point at something being in the works at DC Studios.

However, even if there isn’t a Val-Zod project in the works, there’s still the Ta-Nehisi Coates written Black Superman project in development at DC Studios under James Gunn and Peter Safran. This project is presumably a part of the Elseworlds label like The Batman. It remains to be seen which alternate Superman movie or series gets made first apart from Gunn’s mainline DCU film Superman: Legacy.

Superman: Legacy will be released on 11 July 2025.
