“Maybe Agent Smith wasn’t the only virus”: Avengers 6 Star Plays a Rogue Virus, Fights Keanu Reeves in Matrix 5: Resurgence Concept Trailer

Keanu Reeves’s The Matrix is one of the most beloved and widely known film series of all time. Over the last 20 years, the series has found itself ingrained in the very fabric of popular culture. Although it started in 1999 with Reeves’s Neo front and center, its latest and fourth past was released only recently, in 2021.

Despite this, many fans have been wanting more additions to the story. There have been many mock-ups drawn that show what a potential fifth part could look like. However, none seems to be as intriguing and realistic as a new fan-made trailer.

Keanu Reeves Fights a New Virus

The Matrix has always been a fight between reality and a false world. While the first film put Keanu Reeves on the roadmap of some of the greatest movies in his filmography; those that followed didn’t gather as much attention as fans would have liked. Hopes for every new film increase and die just as they get released. A fan-made trailer for a possible Matrix 5: Resurgence was shared by Darth Trailer on YouTube, and it brought back Neo and Trinity in another thrilling adventure.

The trailer brought about the idea of there being another virus in The Matrix after Agent Smith—one that was corroding their world and hating the concept of humans coexisting. This virus, in a surprising turn of events, wore the face of Avengers 6 star Simu Liu. While the clips of his character were taken from his performance in 2023’s Simulant, it is safe to say that his look tracks very well in this world.

Pitting the star against Reeves would certainly be an unexplored idea, making him the villain of an action-packed fifth installment of the beloved franchise. Neo and Trinity must join hands once again to defeat this mysterious and rogue foe that poses a threat to the Matrix and their entire world.

Fans Want More From The Matrix

While many fans had mixed reactions to the fictitious trailer, one thing is clear, audiences want more from the world of The Matrix. While some were skeptical and wanted to leave well enough alone, others found the concept quite intriguing.

They wish to see new parts from the series, even though the latest film, The Matrix Resurrections,  did not perform very well. While the concept of a new film will always be welcomed by hardcore fans, others are more interested in the concept of the fan-made trailer itself. Even though the concept is hypothetical, the world will forever be attractive for fans.
