Pulling down the curtains on the brand new video game Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, on February 2, 2024, Rocksteady Studios stunned fans with their bizarre take on The Joker. Not only does DC’s most famous villain join the game, but he becomes the new playable member of the Suicide Squad.
Well, that’s not even the worst part, for fans are more fixated on the version of The Joker used in the video game series. Previously digging at Jared Leto’s Joker from Suicide Squad, people thought his version was the bottom of the barrel. But after witnessing Rocksteady Studios’ version of Joker, fans have concluded that Leto was far better compared to this.
Rocksteady Studios’ Introduction of Joker in Suicide Squad Video Game
Right after Rocksteady Studios offered a sneak peek to the gamers at the future of the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League video game, they were teased with an unexpected character debut in the Suicide Squad. Well, the above-mentioned character debut in question is of none, but The Joker. While it might crack the ground beneath your feet, the Studio quite surprisingly introduced Batman’s nemesis as a member of the Suicide Squad.
Digging deep into the storyline, it has been noted that the version of The Joker in the video game is much different from the traditional one that DC fans are familiar with. Since this version of Joker is from “Elseworlds” which is a sort of multiverse, he represents a much younger version of the character. According to that very logline, the young Joker shown in the game has just begun his villainous journey and will therefore be recruited to the Suicide Squad.
Introducing the young Joker with a fast and dynamic playstyle, Rocksteady advised players to stay moving. Meanwhile, as per GameInformer, since this Joker is a much younger version of the character, Mark Hamill wasn’t used as the voice actor, who previously impressed fans with his performance in the Batman: Arkham series. Hamill’s replacement certainly disappointed fans, but what let down the gamers most was the design of the character.
Criticism Shifts From Jared Leto’s Joker to Rocksteady Studios’ Version
Hoping to get the classic Joker from the Arkhamverse, fans and gamers were let down by the new version of the DC villain. Since this particular version looks entirely different from the OG iteration and has a whole new set of tricks up his sleeve, people began criticizing the change. With the gaming community disappointed in the design choice of Rocksteady Studios, netizens began taking to X to slam the Joker.
Admitting how they previously thought that Jared Leto‘s Joker was the worst version and nothing could compete with his degradation, fans claimed that Rocksteady Studios’ Joker proved them wrong. Announcing their negative opinions towards this new version of the Joker from Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, people called out the design for being worse than the failed Jared Leto version.
