Hugh Jackman has wielded Wolverine’s claws for nearly a quarter of a century, becoming as inseparable from the character. Over the years, his portrayal has set a high bar that’s been tough for others to follow. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has wisely avoided replacing Jackman, respecting the legacy he’s built.

Remember Fox’s X-Men saga? It paved the way for superhero films, with Jackman’s Wolverine leading the parade. By the time 2017’s Logan hit the screens, we thought it was curtains for our beloved mutant.

But Jackman’s return, especially alongside Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, proved that this duo has the chemistry of a peanut butter and banana sandwich. And speaking of perfect pairings, don’t you think it’s high time for Kevin Feige to give Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye a much-needed shot…perhaps in Avengers 5?

Hawkeye’s Extended Play: From Arrow-Thrower to Streaming Sensation

When Jeremy Renner joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2011 with Thor, he indeed made his mark with a quiver full of potential. Since then, he’s been darting through a slew of Marvel projects, culminating in his TV venture with the Disney+ series Hawkeye.

Following Avengers: Endgame, the Avengers team began to say their bittersweet goodbyes, each character getting their own moment in the sun.

Nevertheless, only Hawkeye hadn’t gotten his solo film. Initially, the makers were toying with the idea of giving Hawkeye his own big-screen adventure (via Bloomberg). But after Kevin Feige and the creative minds took a closer look at the story of the series, they realized that a mere two-hour flick would be as useful as a bow without arrows.

Trinh Tran, the executive producer behind Hawkeye, spilled the beans (or should we say, drew the bowstring) on what went down (via Den of Geek):

The early discussion was, what is the story of Clint Barton and Kate Bishop on the feature side? Then as we were sort of diving into the research and going through all the comics, there was a lot of great stuff that we absolutely love, so we were trying to figure out, how do we have enough time to tell Clint’s story?

In simpler terms, the creative geniuses decided that the story needed more room to stretch out. Ergo, instead of a brief encounter, they opted for a series on Disney+.

And voila! What we got was a six-episode marathon that let us see Renner’s Clint Barton and Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop in all their bow-and-arrow glory. Critics and fans alike have been singing its praises, with the show boasting a breathtaking 92% on Rotten Tomatoes

Here’s the scoop: When the outlet asked Renner if he had any inside information about a potential second season of Hawkeye, his reply was foggy:

Yeah, I don’t know, I haven’t gone down that road with anybody at Marvel about it – so, yeah. I don’t know what’s going on.

This revelation came hot on the heels of rumors that Hawkeye Season 2 might have been given the green light. Back in February, Renner had given fans a glimmer of hope, saying he was “game” to reprise his role (via ComicBookMovie). He even informed Entertainment Tonight:
