Nonetheless, even when placed against the strongest and mightiest MCU characters, DCEU Superman is always deemed the victor. However, one superhero from the opposing film franchise is always at the forefront of these “Superman versus” debates. And that someone is MCU’s Scarlet Witch.

WandaVision and Multiverse of Madness helped establish the true extent of Wanda Maximoff’s powers. With that in mind, can MCU’s Scarlet Witch take down Henry Cavill’s Superman?

Before determining who would win in a fight between the two superheroes, their respective skills, abilities, and powers must be examined. Cavill’s Superman is a force to reckon with.

The character is well-known for his superhuman strength and invulnerability. He is indestructible and has been shown to withstand extreme temperatures, bullets, explosions, exposure to outer space vacuum, Steppenwolf’s Electro Axe, plasma bolts from Kryptonian weaponry, Doomsday’s energy blasts, and other devastating forces capable of rendering individuals defenseless within his realm. Post-resurrection Superman, in particular, is on an entirely different level.

Besides his mind-blowing strength and invulnerability, Henry Cavill’s Superman also possesses superhuman speed (he was swift enough to outrace the gravitational pull of a Phantom Zone singularity and almost match up to The Flash), superhuman reflexes, enhanced vision (consisting of sensory functions such as infrared, telescopic, X-ray, gamma-ray, and heat vision), inhuman stamina, hypersonic scream, superhuman hearing, and smell, etc.

His Kryptonian origins endow him with “godlike abilities.” Bruce Wayne (in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) has even claimed that Superman can eradicate the whole human population if he so wishes.

Henry Cavill‘s Superman is also renowned for his intellect and leadership skills. His abilities are applied in line with his innate intelligence. Lastly, his determination and willpower make him the most admirable superhero. He is not known to give up quickly.

As For MCU’s Scarlet Witch…

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to claim that Scarlet Witch is the most powerful character in the MCU. Even before WandaVision and Multiverse of Madness demonstrated her abilities, Infinity War and Endgame revealed most of what we needed to know. She could fend off Thanos while destroying an Infinity Stone with her telekinetic powers. In Endgame’s final battle sequence, Thanos had to “initiate a blitz” to stop Wanda from nearly killing him. And this was before the Darkhold.

In later appearances, we see the Scarlet Witch as more than simply a title. It’s an entity. In WandaVision and MoM, we see the extent of the true potential Wanda possesses. When it comes to her innate abilities, she was born as the wielder of chaos magic. This magic allows her to warp time and reality.

She can manipulate people’s perceptions, and even make them hallucinate. Wanda can additionally conjure, transmute, absorb energy, induce fear and pain, alter memories, influence behavior, evoke illusory hypnosis, teleport, and manipulate thoughts and actions. She also harbors a range of psionic powers granted by the Mind Stone.

Her telepathic ability helps her read people’s minds and even match up to the powers of other telepaths like Professor X. According to Wong, the Scarlet Witch “is prophesized to either rule or annihilate the cosmos.” She was deemed a multiversal threat. Her battle with the Illuminati exposed the most catastrophic nature of her magical powers.

Although she is presumed dead at the end of MoM, it is highly believed that the Scarlet Witch will return and that Wanda’s untapped potential will be further explored.

The Verdict…?

Who wins?
Who wins?

The verdict may disappoint many because the answer to the question is uncertain and dependent on how an actual fight between the two would play out. Superman is, well, Superman. There’s a reason why his reputation among comic book fans precedes his contemporaries. Wanda Maximoff, on the other hand, is not going down quietly. MoM Scarlet Witch was simply terrifying.

Put against Henry Cavill’s Superman, it would result in a close fight. A lot depends on how the battle commences. Supe’s incredible speed should allow him to strike the initial punch. However, whether or not that would be uncharacteristic of him is debatable.

Wanda’s telepathic skills and ability to warp reality may entail a horrifying experience for Cavill’s Superman. As was observed in the fight against the Illuminati, nothing was enough to hold off the Scarlet Witch. Another factor to consider is Superman’s weakness, which is magic. Can he endure Wanda’s chaos magic with ease? It genuinely remains unclear the extent of damage both could deal to the other.

But one thing is certain. The MCU’s most powerful hero has the potential to be Supe’s worst nightmare.
