With Jonathan Majors’ Kang out of the MCU’s scheme of things after his conviction last year, fans have been speculating who might be the perfect foe to replace the Conqueror in the multiversal saga. And while many have pointed to Doctor Doom as the perfect substitution following the scale of the upcoming Avengers, the MCU might already have the ideal solution to this situation.
Considering we are already halfway through the multiversal saga, setting up Doctor Doom in the limited time for the upcoming Avengers flicks isn’t going to be easy if the MCU goes that route. However, bringing back one Avengers foe from the past could work in the MCU’s favor, as he could effortlessly fill Kang’s shoes in the upcoming multiversal battle in Avengers 5 or 6.
Fans Theorize on How Ultron Could Make His Way Back to the MCU
While Ultron is yet to make an appearance in live-action after being defeated in Avengers: Age of Ultron, for years fans have been speculating that the entity is still alive in the MCU. And considering Ultron is an AI construct, if Marvel writers do decide to board this train, bringing him won’t be a hard task, and fans have theorized several ways about how Ultron could still be alive in the MCU. Taking to Reddit, one user explained that Ultron might’ve been successful in transferring a copy of himself in the Quinjet, thus allowing him to live in a dormant state all these years.
Another user pointed out that he could be hiding in Shuri’s AI in Wakanda after she downloaded Vision in Avengers: Infinity War. There are plenty of ways to incorporate Ultron into the multiversal war as he could make the perfect successor to Kang, and as shown in What If…?, dominating the multiverse isn’t out of the ordinary for him.
Ultron Was Rumored to Return in Don Cheadle’s Armor Wars
Although there has been little to no information about the state of Ultron in the MCU, he was previously rumored to appear in Don Cheadle’s Armor Wars. In a now-deleted post in r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers, one moderator claimed that James Spader was rumored to return as the AI entity in Armor Wars. Initially intended to be a Disney Plus show, Armor Wars is reported to focus on Tony Stark’s legacy, which does make it possible that one of his most destructive creations might find its way back with this movie.
With no release date in sight and 2024 turning out to be a quiet year for the MCU, except for Deadpool and Wolverine, nothing can be said certain about Armor Wars and its impact on the MCU.
