The recent update of the upcoming Fantastic Four film has completely broken the internet. With no warning and no prior whispers, Marvel Studios revealed its cast for a film that was announced almost five years ago.
Starring Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, fans could not have asked for a better lineup.
With this news, it is only natural for more details about the film to get slipped and revealed. Recently, many sources have also suggested something relating to when the highly-anticipated film will be set and the update is astonishing.
Fantastic Four Will Be A Period Film
Since the shock of the cast lineup has died down, fans have been quick to notice the details in the picture that Marvel released announcing the cast of the Fantastic Four. One of the biggest things that came to the forefront was the theme of what period it would be set in.
The four heroes are seen wearing costumes that are extremely reminiscent of the ones they wore in their first appearance on paper, in 1961.
On top of this, the robot in the art, H.E.R.B.I.E., is also in a much more vintage design compared to its more modern look in the recent issues of the comics. Additionally, Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s The Thing is seen holding a magazine, a vague drawing of a real-life issue of Life Magazine that was released in December 1963.
Looking at these facts, it can be assumed that the film will be set somewhere around the 50s-60s.
Fantastic Four Will Be Set Before Captain Marvel
If these speculations are true, Fantastic Four will mark the third-period film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first was Captain America: First Avenger, set in the 40s. This was followed by the 90s set Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson.
While it can be expected that the film with be set sometime between these two films, there are very less chances of it being set in the same universe.
It can also be expected that the film will be excellently executed because it is being directed by Matt Shakman. The filmmaker is best known for directing the masterpiece that was Wandavision.
Considering just how fantastic the execution of the different time periods was in this series, it can be expected that the director with do something similar with the highly-anticipated film.
Fantastic Four will be in theaters on May 2nd, 2025.
