In October 2017, disgraced actor Harvey Weinstein was accused of r*pe, s*xual assault, and s*xual abuse by dozens of women that occurred over a period of at least 30 years. Even Hollywood stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Salma Hayek, and Gwyneth Paltrow, came forward to talk about Weinstein’s actions.
Weinstein’s influence in the industry was quite strong as he co-founded the entertainment company Miramax, which has released many successful independent films. Weinstein also played a key role in launching the careers of many celebrities, including Meryl Streep. The convicted s*x offender’s life and career is now finished and Streep, who once called Weinstein a “god,” is glad that he is behind bars.

Hollywood star Meryl Streep was praised for her exceptional performance in Phyllida Lloyd’s 2011 movie, The Iron Lady. Although the film received mixed reviews, Streep won her third Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. During her 2012 acceptance speech, the actress jokingly called Harvey Weinstein a “god,”
“I just wanna thank my agent Kevin Huvane and God, Harvey Weinstein, the punisher, Old Testament, I guess.”
Streep also won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as Margaret Thatcher in the movie. 5 years later, Weinstein was accused of r*pe, s*xual assault, and s*xual abuse by many women.
Meryl Streep released a public statement after Harvey Weinstein’s accusations came forward
Streep highlighted her experience with Weinstein in a statement that was released after Weinstein’s accusations came forward. The actress said (via HuffPost),
“The disgraceful news about Harvey Weinstein has appalled those of us whose work he championed and those whose good and worthy causes he supported. The intrepid women who raised their voices to expose this abuse are our heroes,” adding, “One thing can be clarified. Not everybody knew. Harvey supported the work fiercely, was exasperating but respectful with me in our working relationship, and with many others with whom he worked professionally.”
Since the late 1970s, Meryl Streep has consistently given outstanding performances in many blockbuster hits, earning her the title of a legendary actress.

Further in the statement, Streep highlighted that was not aware of Weinstein’s meetings, his interactions with other celebrities,
“I didn’t know about these other offenses; I did not know about his financial settlements with actresses and colleagues; I did not know about his having meetings in his hotel room, his bathroom, or other inappropriate, coercive acts. And if everybody knew, I don’t believe that all the investigative reporters in the entertainment and the hard news media would have neglected for decades to write about it.”
In February 2020, Weinstein was found guilty and in March 2020, he was sentenced to 23 years of imprisonment. After Weinstein went behind bars, many women came forward to expose other men who abused their powers in the industry.
