In the interview with Megan Fox that is showcased in the trailer, she talks about playing Mortal Kombat growing up and how she cannot believe she gets to be a part of Mortal Kombat 1. She discusses her connection to Nitara in the video saying:

“She comes from this weird realm, she is a type of vampire creature. She’s evil but she’s also good. She’s trying to save her people. I really like her. She’s a vampire which obviously resonates for whatever reason. It’s cool to be in the game, you know? Because I’m not really just voicing it, it’ll be like she’s kind of me.”

Megan Fox will be taking on the vampire fighter who has been in existence since the early 2000’s. Nitara first appeared in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (2002) and has since appeared in five other installments either as a playable character, or in a cameo role. In her past iterations, she has required the blood of the living in order to survive. The fighter also uses blood based attacks, her wings, claws, and of course fangs, as an advantage against opponents.

The last time the character was referenced was in Mortal Kombat 11 (2019), right before a fight between Skarlet and Erron Black. Given the recent attention to Nitara, she was destined to show up eventually, and Megan Fox has stepped up to fill the role.

Since Mortal Kombat 1 is set to be a continuity reboot of the series, fans can expect the character to have exciting new roots. Nevertheless, Megan Fox expressed the the character is somewhat morally ambiguous, which lends to past history of the iconic vampire.
