Director Zack Snyder’s Snyderverse started with his 2013 movie, Man of Steel, setting up a DC Extended Universe based on characters that appear in comic books published by DC Comics. While many fans loved the Extended Universe, some of the movies didn’t perform well. During the production of 2017’s Justice League, Snyder had to leave the franchise due to a personal tragedy, and as a result, the film was ruined in his absence. Fans did get Snyder’s version of Justice League in 2021 but it was too late as DC scrapped the Snyderverse and a soft reboot of the franchise was planned.

Many fans loved what Snyder did with the DCEU, especially the dark, mature tone in the movies but there was this one line Snyder added in 2017’s Wonder Woman that did not sit well with some viewers.

In a recent interview with Wired, director Zack Snyder revealed the vision he had for DCEU’s Wonder Woman and that one specific line that was his contribution,

“When I started it, I wanted a Wonder Woman that was not necessarily naive. Not necessarily, like, a virgin. Actually, there’s one line in the Wonder Woman movie that I originally wrote. When they’re on the boat and talking about, like, the treatises on sexual pleasure, she says [to Steve Trevor], ‘You wouldn’t like it because it concludes that men, though important for reproduction, are not necessary for pleasure.'”

Snyder had a completely different vision for Wonder Woman, he wanted a strong warrior, who was not naive. The film was successful, grossing over $822 million worldwide, and made the character a fan favorite.

Snyder’s humorous line didn’t sit well with some viewers as it seems like many found it offensive and bashed the director on social media. Snyder wrote the story of 2017’s Wonder Woman with Allan Heinberg and Jason Fuchs.

The line wasn’t a complete miss as many fans did actually like Snyder’s cheeky humor. That’s not Snyder’s only contribution to the DCEU as the director’s Snyderverse/DCEU movies are often labeled as one the best reboots of the DC franchise. With Snyder out, James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios, has been working on a soft reboot of the DCEU, which will officially begin with 2025’s Superman: Legacy.
