The Hollywood star Meryl Streep is one of the actresses who have left an indelible mark on the film industry with her extensive body of work. The acclaim for the actress stems from her remarkable adaptability and versatility, as she is known for embodying diverse on-screen characters. Whether it is the role of a cruel boss in The Devil Wears Prada or a frustrated spouse in Kramer vs Kramer, Streep’s ability to effortlessly transition between roles has been a hallmark of her illustrious career.
And the Oscar-winning actress once again did the same, responding to the 2024 Golden Globe host after he abruptly cued her to do the ‘Wakandar Forever’ salute from Marvel’s Black Panther at the award ceremony.
Meryl Streep Effortlessly Embraced the Wakanda Forever Salute
Fans of Marvel’s superhero franchise have long wished to see Meryl Streep in the MCU. While the actress is yet to star in a Marvel movie, she was seen doing the iconic Wakanda Forever salute at the 81st Golden Globe Awards.
The award ceremony has been in talks for several things, one of them being Jo Koy’s controversial monologue, which has now become a subject of online roasting. He concluded his monologue by talking about the Big Little Lies star, who was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries, or Television Film.
The host of the ceremony went on to talk about his favorite line from her. “It just stuck with me. The way you said, ‘Wakanda Forever,'” he said as he asked her to do it again. Streep, however, without any hesitation crossed her hands and did the remarkable salute from Marvel’s Black Panther.
While the whole monologue has raised questions about the comedian’s countless efforts to infuse the evening with laughter, the Oscar-winning actress took the spotlight at the prestigious award ceremony with her “Wakanda Forever” salute.
Jo Koy Reacts to Backlash Over Golden Globes
While fans loved seeing Meryl Streep doing the Wakanda Forever salute, many other jokes delivered by the 2024 Golden Globes have not been received very well. And the comedian reacted to the backlash in a recent appearance on ABC’s GMA3: What You Need to Know.
“It’s a tough room,” he shared, noting that he would be lying if he said that “it doesn’t hurt.” He further stated that although he has years of experience doing stand-ups, hosting is quite different than that. Koy also called it a “crash course,” saying that the monologue was prepared in 10 days. “I kind of went in and did the writers’ thing,” he said. Despite the backlash, Koy shared that he still loved what he did at the award ceremony.
