Netflix has a slew of shows that are coming to an end, which opens up a lot of pillars for a new line of content that Netflix must produce to get subscribers to its service. This has caused Netflix to invest a lot of money into newer projects, to develop new IPs. However, fans are enraged that the money that is being put into newer shows was not used to complete fan-favorite properties and other projects that fans are more interested in.
Millie Bobby Brown’s upcoming IP for Netflix, which also stars Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, and Giancarlo Esposito, allegedly has a budget of $300 million, with The Russo Brothers helming the project. However, fans believe this money could have been better spent on another Netflix property, one that could have retained more fans.
David Fincher’s Mindhunter was considered too pricey to receive a final season
Despite all the money that Netflix has thrown around on new properties, the acquisitions come at the cost of some great stories that fans were eager to see more of, but could not because of the steps taken by Netflix. This includes canceling a slew of shows for various reasons, among which is the fact that the shows had gotten just too pricey to make, such as David Fincher‘s mindblowing crime drama series, Mindhunter.
Not only are fans enraged about the fact that Mindhunter was shelved thanks to the money it needed to get made, but they are also miffed about a slew of shows that should have received their endings and more seasons, such as GLOW, Aurora, and Jupiter’s Legacy.
Fans are mad about the money Netflix is willing to give new talent
Fans have taken to the internet to express their rage about how Netflix has been conducting its business. The amount of money that Netflix is spending to acquire new properties could have been better used to keep some of the canceled greats of the streaming giant alive.
Netflix has to put all their money up front for the creators because there is no box office revenue. This is how they lure big name talent. An all-star big production like this will collect eyeballs. Funding series that no one watches doesn't make sense.

Thinking about spending $300 million on a single movie to be dumped on Netflix and forgotten days after instead of going for hundreds of millions at the box office, with lasting cultural impact

Also, the Dark Crystal series.
Glow hurt. Literally one season away from concluding its story and it’s not an expensive show compared to rest

I'm surprised at the faith shown in the Russos. They don't have a track record anywhere near as good as the filmmakers you mentioned (and I don't think any combination of circumstances could help them reach that level either). How would you spread that kind of budget, ideally?

I don't understand the financing for these movies.
There is no way it *generates* an additional $600M from subscribers. Which would be what it would be expected to do in theaters to be a success.
And yet they just throw money into this dumpster fire— fizzbhau (@fizzbhau) June 19, 2024
While other shows could be acquired and financed by Netflix, there seems to be little to no interest in making the shows that fans actually enjoy. If anything, there are more incomplete good shows on the platform than completed IPs where Netflix dropped the ball, which might be the reason the company is suffering so much in regional and even its home markets.
