Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is still a couple of months away from release, but in true Activision fashion, the publisher is already talking about a sequel in the series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. According to the widely known franchise’s narrative director, the third instalment will not be the last one in the series, as it was confirmed that there will definitely be more Modern Warfare in the future. Although the new Modern Warfare series is actually rebooted, it looks like the Call of Duty team plans to continue with it for a very long time.

The Call of Duty franchise is quite possibly one of the most well-known video game brands in the whole world, and it is also extremely timeless because of its various series. Each series focuses on a different aspect, such as World War II, modern world and technology, or sci-fi, which gives the franchise the chance to be fresh and innovative with each release. Not every title has been a commercial and critical success, which basically led the developer Infinity Ward to bring back a highly beloved series from the past, with a third instalment just around the corner, called Modern Warfare 3.

Since the initial announcement for Modern Warfare 3, fans have been wondering if Infinity Ward would end the series after a trilogy again, but apparently, Modern Warfare will live on for much longer. The threequel is now actually being helmed by Sledgehammer Games. The narrative director of the franchise, Brian Bloom, recently sat down and had a conversation with The Washington Post, during which he revealed that the third instalment in the Modern Warfare series is only the beginning for the characters it will introduce and that their stories will continue in the future games as well.

This has led fans to speculate that maybe the notorious villain of the upcoming Modern Warfare 3, Makaraov, doesn’t just show up for one appearance and will prove to be a much bigger threat for the series in the future, just like he did in the past with the original games.

Modern Warfare 3 Narrative Director Talks About the Future

There Will be More Modern Warfare After Modern Warfare 3

While discussing the characters in the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Bloom said that players can expect their arcs to go “one way,” but there are twists and turns such as characters falling “off their arc,” going “backwards,” and evolving and devolving just like real people. According to the narrative director, all of these aspects provide the development team with “rich, fertile ground to tell stories,” while also mentioning that it is not going to stop anytime soon. To finish his statement about the future of the Modern Warfare series, Bloom said that his team is “just getting started,” implying that there is a lot more coming for these games and their characters.

For a while now, fans of the franchise have been asking for spin-off titles, and the narrative director’s statement could imply that this could become a reality. But obviously, this probably confirms that Modern Warfare 3 will be getting a sequel sometime in the near future. Considering the level of success that the Modern Warfare and the Black Ops series have garnered over the years, it is also quite likely that Activision would want to keep releasing alternative titles for both sub-franchises.

Modern Warfare 3 will be released on November 10. Are you looking forward to playing it? Let us know in the comments!
