Fans of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will have most likely heard the term SBMM. If not, it is a term that is used within the gaming community and means skill-based matchmaking. It has received a lot of negative responses from gamers over the years.
Unfortunately for some, this term has now appeared again as Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 has announced that SBMM will be active throughout multiplayer. For many gamers, this can be considered a bad thing, but for some, it is a godsend.
Why Is SBMM Such an Important Gameplay System for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3?
For years, Call of Duty has been a famous game that has millions of players online each day, and not all of those players are good at the game. This has led game developers to create gameplay systems like SBMM to ensure that there is a fair gap between players.
Sadly, this doesn’t always work out, as some gamers feel that SBMM limits their options, as players who are good at the game will always be stuck playing with other good players, while new players will always be stuck playing against other new players.

Without systems like the SBMM, this won’t happen, and players who are already good at the game will get paired with players who aren’t, leading to the pro-players getting better and the new players getting worse and losing enjoyment for the game, which is why it is important for this system to exist.
This has led to a lot of controversy, especially now with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 using SBMM, as a majority of players are stating that this system has killed Activision’s latest shooter, like it has killed past games in the franchise.
One comment that long-term fans of the Call of Duty franchise have made in the past is to keep the SBMM system but only use it within the ranked modes. The downside to this is that players who just want to casually play the game will still struggle against players who should be in those ranked game modes.
How Will This Affect Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s Release?
At the moment, this information does seem to be affecting a majority of long-term players, as many have already taken to social media to express their displeasure at his announcement. Many of these fans include popular streamers who have stated they are not happy with this decision.
Currently, this won’t have any effect on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3‘s official release, as many of the gamers who will purchase the game and enjoy it do not worry about systems like these, as they actually benefit those players.

Even though this system has been present in Call of Duty games since way back in 2014 with the release of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, some players still feel that this system will ruin the game experience.
So far, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is still going strong, as thousands of players logged in throughout the weekend to join the open beta that took place, and some have even started to pre-order the game ahead of its release in November.
Unfortunately, this system has created a lot of controversy over the years, and as long as Call of Duty uses this system, there will always be backlash. But the overall reason for this system isn’t to protect the seasoned veterans; it is to protect the new players who want to enjoy a new game.
