Gamers who played Modern Warfare 2 (2022) will recall an end credit scene that teased the future antagonist for its sequel. It showed men on an airplane, with one assembling a handgun, and then receiving a text that said “no Russian.” The man who receives the message then drops his phone in a glass of beer to destroy it. This scene was a call back to the original Modern Warfare games and a hint that Vladimir Makarov, an infamous antagonist, would return. We now know based on the reveal trailer, which is attached at the bottom of this article, that he is in fact returning before the end of this year.

Vladimir Makarov was referenced in the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and then appeared as the main antagonist in Modern Warfare 3. In the original games, he was the man who set World War 3 in motion and pulled the strings of various adversaries. He is also most famously known for orchestrating the fourth mission in the original Modern Warfare 2, “No Russian.” This is easily one of Call of Duty’s most controversial missions, because it involved killing innocent people. Due to its disturbing nature, the game made it easily skippable for players.

The Reveal Trailer Showing Vladimir Markov Will Bring a New Level of Terror to Modern Warfare 3

Vladimir Makarov is one of the most vicious and infamous enemies in the Modern Warfare franchise. When he arrives in Modern Warfare 3, there will certainly be chaos. And the reveal trailer posted by the Call of Duty YouTube page promises just that. It blends live action elements with Modern Warfare 3 animations as Makarov is being escorted through a prison.  Makarov’s tattoos turn into versions of future cutscenes players will experience in the title. Every prisoner he passes turns and looks at him, showing he is already an established bad guy in this universe.

The Modern Warfare 3 trailer also shows a crashed airplane on fire. This may mean we will pick up where the end credit scene from Modern Warfare 2 left off. It also means the chances are high for Call of Duty to try to reimagine the “No Russian” mission in an even more controversial way. How exactly this will be done is yet to be determined, however, this future title promises to compete with the other exciting games releasing this Fall. Modern Warfare 3 is bringing Makarov to the forefront, and a violent confrontation is about to bring players to the front of the action.
