Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is scheduled to launch on November 10, 2023, and fans are eager to learn more about the game’s multiplayer maps. Activision has confirmed that the game will feature a total of 16 multiplayer maps at launch, including a mix of new and returning maps from previous Call of Duty games.
Returning Modern Warfare 2 Maps to Modern Warfare 3 and New Ground War and War Maps
A bunch of the cool Modern Warfare 2 (from back in ’09) maps are in the starting lineup. We’ve also got three Ground War maps based on Urzikstan’s Big Map, and a slice of the big Urzikstan itself for the War mode.
Afghan: This classic map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 takes you to a desert battleground with a crashed aircraft, bunkers, and cliffside anti-air guns. It’s a high-risk, high-reward zone with cliffs to climb and dark caves to explore.
Derail: A snow-covered forest around a train town with a wrecked train in the middle. It’s the perfect place to make your enemies freeze in the woods.
Estate: Fancy a shootout in a mountain lodge? Estate is where you want to be. You can brawl inside the luxurious lodge or step outside to tackle enemies from various angles.
Favela: Drop into the slums of Rio de Janeiro, where chaos reigns. You can dive into the action in the heart of the slums, go rooftop hopping, or take out enemies from a distance.
Karachi: It’s a compact urban setting with plenty of spots to climb and sneak around. Knowing the layout can make all the difference in this medium-sized multiplayer map.
Highrise: This classic map is all about a rooftop construction site with two massive buildings. Watch out for tunnels and a scary helipad, as they can be treacherous.
Invasion: Step into a medium-sized city map with tight buildings and intense street fights. You’ll need to be quick on your feet and use your wits to your advantage.
Quarry: An open-pit mine with long-range battles in the central area and up-close skirmishes in the offices and warehouses. You can also go indoors for some multi-level combat.
Rundown: Find yourself in a South American village, with a river separating the main area from the sparser outskirts. Stick together when crossing the river and keep your guard up in the buildings.
Rust: This classic map in the Urzikstan desert features a towering central structure. Fight it out on the ground or use obstacles for cover.
Scrapyard: It’s a battlefield in an aircraft graveyard in Modern Warfare 3, with plenty of buildings to hide in. Just be wary of snipers lurking between the warehouses.
Skidrow: Deploy in a medium-sized city block surrounded by smaller buildings. There are loads of ways to outmaneuver your opponents in this urban maze.
Sub Base: It’s a naval base where submarines come for maintenance and refueling. Engage in combat dockside and battle for control in this medium-sized map full of vantage points and routes.
Terminal: Infiltrate an international airport and engage in battles inside the terminal or on the apron. This midsized classic multiplayer map caters to all playstyles.
Underpass: Pouring rain has turned this South American industrial sector into a mud bath, but that won’t stop Operator skirmishes. You can trudge through the mud, set up ambushes, or try your luck on the rain-slicked rooftops. In this large environment, your climbing and ambush options are nearly endless.
Wasteland: Battle across an abandoned wasteland with wide-open fields perfect for sniper duels. If you prefer extreme close-range combat, try your luck in the Dugout, a tight underground crossroads where all trenches meet in the middle.
Levin Resort (Ground War): The Levin Resort was once a bustling hub for tourists and business travelers, offering poolside relaxation and a wide range of shopping and services. However, it’s now a ghost town, with General Barkov’s defaced statues nearby following his downfall. As you navigate the resort courtyard, beware of multiple vantage points that can pose a threat to those below in Modern Warfare 3.
Orlov Military Base (Ground War): The heart of the Orlov Military Base holds missile silos, bunkers, and facilities built into the rugged mountainous terrain of the northern part of the map. Scattered barricades provide squads with defense options as they push into the area.
Popov Power (Ground War): Popov Power is the energy powerhouse of Urzikstan, supplying power to the region. Battle around the plant’s cooling towers, containment structures, and the array of industrial buildings to flank and ambush enemy squads.
Operation: Spearhead (War Mode): Within Operation Spearhead, the first location is the vast Urzikstan map, set within a linear corridor encompassing the Orlov Military Base and Kadurin Silo. Your mission is to clear anti-aircraft defenses to airdrop armored vehicles. Stick close to the armor to break through to the launch site and set up missile overrides in this intense 6v6 battle in Modern Warfare 3.
Carry Forward Maps
- Farm 18 (Modern Warfare II)
- Mercado (Modern Warfare II)
- Shoot House (Modern Warfare II)
Favorite Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 maps to Modern Warfare 3. Initially, four Core 6v6 maps, like Farm 18, Mercado, and Shoot House, will be in a special playlist after launch. More classic maps will arrive during the Live Seasons. These maps will look the same but might play differently due to Modern Warfare 3’s mechanics. They’ll be alongside new seasonal content. Note that new Modern Warfare 3 modes won’t work (like Cutthroat) on these MWII maps.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 offer a diverse range of multiplayer maps, from small like Rust to large like Wasteland. They cater to various playstyles, and we’re excited about both the classic returning maps and the fantastic new ones.
We’re excited about the Carry Forward maps from Modern Warfare II. They’re highly popular, and it’ll be intriguing to see how they fit with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 updated mechanics.
