Money Heist: Everything You Need To Know About Season 5

It’s not a small feat for a non-English series to become Netflix’s one of the most-watched shows to date. With 65 million viewership and counting, Money Heist nearly rivaled the likes of hit shows like Tiger King and the third season of Stranger Things. After its explosive fourth season, the show is finally confirmed to return for its fifth and final season.

Given the massive popularity of this heist drama series, Netflix considerably upgraded the show’s budget for which the series has received critical acclaim. From adrenaline pumped sequences to intricate plotlines, Money Heist has set the benchmark for future heist drama series while paving the path for Spanish shows and movies.

Release Date

Considering the ongoing pandemic and the high stakes involved in creating a compelling and unforgettable finale, it is natural that showrunner Alex Pina and Netflix are taking their time for the final season.

The Cast For Season 5

While the show has received widespread acclaim for its high-octane heist sequences and complex narration, it is the cast that made Money Heist so massively popular. The hidden character motivations paired with remarkable depth has made the characters a household name across the globe. From The Professor to Nairobi, every single character has been phenomenal and an integral part of the series so far.

While nothing has been confirmed so far, Úrsula Corberó as Tokio and Álvaro Morte as El Profesor will most certainly be back for the new season of the Netflix original series. After the death of Nairobi, played by Alba Flores, the Spanish actor has confirmed that she won’t be returning in any capacity for the fifth season. It is also expected that the other significant cast members to be in on the next plan, including Itziar Ituño, Miguel Herrán, Jaime Lorente, Esther Acebo, Darko Peric, and Enrique Arce. According to recent reports, Sense8 star Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Patrick Criado will be joining the fifth season of Money Heist. It is unknown which roles these two actors be portraying.

Money Heist Season 5 Synopsis

As a subversive take on the heist drama genre, Money Heist is an allegory of revenge against capitalism. As the series is set in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, the Robin Hood-style approach to take down the government paired with Spanish sensibilities of impulsivity, passion, and love has been an integral part of the show.

While Netflix has not yet revealed an official synopsis for the fifth season, it is highly expected that there are going to be a lot of double-crossing, engaging fight sequences, and emotional sacrifices. Considering the complex narration of the series and the ever-changing loyalties of the central characters, the fourth season of Money Heist raised the stakes to new heights. With Inspector Sierra cornering the Professor in a battle of wits, the chances of escaping seem perilously low right now.
