While 2019 was critically and commercially brutal for franchises, the $501M Has Fallen franchise returned with its sequel, Angel Has Fallen. Fans were thrilled to witness Gerard Butler‘s return as the Secret Service agent Mike Banning, with the entire cast to deliver a few more epic scenes and an engaging storyline.

In the 2019 follow-up, Mike gets arrested under the accusation of attempting to murder President Allan Trumbull (Morgan Freeman). However, he escapes custody, only to get chased by the FBI and the Secret Service for being the most wanted man in the nation. The story further unravels as Mike’s desperation to clear his name and uncover the truth grows stronger.

Although the franchise revolves around Gerard Butler’s character, Morgan Freeman played an impressive role, just like in the prequels. While it’s unlikely for the Oscar-winning actor to indulge in such projects, as he often appears in critically acclaimed dramas, he clearly had a motive behind his comeback.

Morgan Freeman’s Reason To Return To The $501M Franchise 

Following the release of Angel Has Fallen, Morgan Freeman opened up about his appearance in the franchise. Playing the role of a fictional US president Allan Trumbull in the $501M franchise, Freeman discussed his return. Stating the reason behind his comeback quite blatantly, the Oscar-winning actor stunned his fans.

Discussing how it is his second appearance as a president in the oval office following his 1998 movie Deep Impact, Morgan Freeman spoke about his return to the franchise. After he was asked what attracted him to the role, Freeman mentioned, money played a motivating factor. “Do you really want me to tell you that? Money.” the actor stated.

It’s the third in a series it pays better than the first one. I get to play the president again, I’m in a successful series, I’m working with a guy I really admire and like. It’s perfect.” Morgan Freeman shared. 

Further, discussing his successful Hollywood career, the actor recalled The Shawshank Redemption and Million Dollar Baby. Thus, referring to his acting career, when Freeman was asked if he still had “fire in his belly”, the actor stated, “I enjoy it, I still enjoy it. I love making movies but it’s more like smouldering embers now.”
