Freeman has gained an indelible place in the hearts of fans with his roles in series such as The Long Way Home & The Electric Company and movies like The Shawshank Redemption. That being said, his seemingly ageless appearance may be even more impressive than his acclaimed roles. For this Oscar-winning actor, it feels almost like time has stopped.

You might wonder, “Does he even age?” if you were to compare pictures of Freeman taken before and after over time. It is truly remarkable how little he appears to have changed over the years. Whether he is playing a wise old sage or a sharp-tongued detective, Freeman exudes effortless cool and suave.

Through the Lens of Time: The Eternal Appeal of Morgan Freeman

In every role he takes on, Morgan Freeman’s dedication to acting is evident. With a calm, powerful voice that can be both serious and lighthearted at the same time, his voice is akin to that of a god. Indeed, we can’t argue about that. Well, despite waiting until he was 50 years old for his big break, he has had an incredible career.

Playing the role of Fast Black in Jerry Schatzberg’s Street Smart gave him his big break in 1987. It is amazing that, at 50, this was the film that launched his career like a ton of bricks. Since then, Freeman has been nominated for several Oscars, finally taking home the trophy in 2005 for Million Dollar Baby. To say the least, working in a Clint Eastwood-helmed flick might have been an amazing experience for him over the years.

Nonetheless, one of his most recognized roles was in the 1994 blockbuster The Shawshank Redemption. While many people may not be aware, that the actor was already 56 when the movie was filmed, it is still regarded as one of the best on-screen adaptations of Stephen King’s works.

However, when we compare photos of Freeman from his early roles to the present (The Kominsky Method), we can see that his appearance has changed slightly. While he lacks the typical signs of aging, he has developed a sense of wisdom and maturity in his features over time.

Even he shocked his followers when he shared a picture on Instagram of his look last year. The 86-year-old actor was spotted with long gray dreadlocks. “Would you buy tacos from this guy?” the caption asked. Needless to say, numerous comments and hundreds of thousands of likes were left on the pictures.

While many people his age start to feel nostalgic, Freeman will not. The actor shared (via inews):

“I want to live forever. I’m just too curious to die. I’m not a nostalgic person. The past is the past, and I keep looking for tomorrow. I haven’t led one of those lives where you have nostalgia.”

With his smooth, velvety voice and commanding presence, it is no surprise that he has become a Hollywood legend. From his role in Driving Miss Daisy to The Shawshank Redemption, the Oscar winner has time and again shown that age is just a number. And we hope he stays well and has success with all of his upcoming endeavors.

During an interview with Business Insider, the seasoned actor discussed how his self-discipline philosophy has helped him live a long and successful life. “Discipline”, Freeman said when asked what his secret to longevity has been. He went on to explain:

“Exercise, part of your discipline. How you eat, part of your discipline. I try not to overeat. One of the things that I discovered somewhere back down the line was that eating, for us particularly here, has become a habit, not necessarily a need. So if you try to keep it down to need, it’s going to be much better for you.”

He continued by making parallels between that “time in history” and modern American diet culture, arguing that eating was a means of obtaining energy for harder physical work and that obesity was rare in those days:

“You know there are more obese people in the US than probably anywhere else? Because we can feed them. In the time in history when everybody had a job, an actually physical job to do — you get up in the morning, and you get your hoe or your axe or your saw, or whatever the tool it is that you’re using, and you use it. And then at noon, you stop using it and refuel.”

Regardless, while the question of whether he ages remains unanswered, one thing is for sure: he will remain a timeless icon on and off the screen. Until then, all we can do is admire the one and only Morgan Freeman!
