Mortal Kombat 1 is blending elements from the franchise’s past into an all-new narrative and one of the main ones is Kameo’s fighters that embrace players from the good old days. NetherRealm Studios has just revealed that Sektor’s iconic fatality will feature in Mortal Kombat 1 during the last Kombat Kast.

The blast from the past doesn’t stop when it comes to these Kameo Fighters that bring that retro vibe, featuring old versions of characters like Scorpion and Sonya Blade, and even adding some lesser-known faces as an unexpected twist. This fatality of Sektor has been in the history books since his first appearance in the franchise, long before and very different from how he is known now.

Story-wise, Mortal Kombat 1 will pick up the narrative from scratch as it follows Liu Kang and his journey to godhood in the aftermath of Kronika’s defeat in Mortal Kombat 11, but as you’d expect, a new threat is looming causing more other rounds of epic battles.

But even if the story is about a new beginning, the Kameo fighters are looking for that attractive nostalgia, which in addition to the fatality of Sektor from Mortal Kombat 3, is represented by other classic fatalities such as those of Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, Kano, and Jax taken directly from the early years of Mortal Kombat, with all characters from the first 1992 game.

Except for Jax who made his debut in Mortal Kombat 2, and his Kameo design seems to have been inspired by the same, NetherRealm has taken his fatality from Mortal Kombat 3. Also, Mortal Kombat 1 is not going to be short of options for Kameo fighters to be shown in future streams or trailers, as only 13 of the 16 members of the launch Kameo roster are known so far.

Darrius and Sareena, on the other hand, were unexpected additions and the latter harks back to her debut in 1997’s Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero and was revealed to be part of the Kameo roster alongside Reptile, Ashrah, and Havik. There are still three slots left and fans can only speculate right now if NetherRealm will delve even deeper into the franchise’s history to fill out Kameo’s roster.

Excited to get into deadly combat? So there’s only a little waiting time left because Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled for release on September 19th for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S.
