Ever since its release a couple of months ago, on September 19, Mortal Kombat 1 has constantly been on its toes to get fresh content out and available for its player base to maintain its footing in the fighting game genre. It was not exactly smooth sailing for developer NetherRealm Studios after the title officially launched, especially because of its hilariously horrible port for the Nintendo Switch that made the graphics look extremely cheap and outdated.

So, it was only natural that the studio tried to get back into the community’s good graces with new updates and characters.

This is where the Invasions mode in MK1 makes its entrance, with two seasons already completed and Season 3 that launched earlier today on December 14.

NetherRealm Studios has officially launched Mortal Kombat 1: Invasions Season 3.

NetherRealm Studios announced the anticipated arrival of the coolest Invasions season yet with an epic new trailer on the official Mortal Kombat Youtube channel earlier today, showcasing all of the major aspects that fans can expect from Season 3.

The latest instalment in the Mortal Kombat 1 mode is officially called The Season of the Cryomancer, with an extremely cold and icy central theme. There seems to be “An unbearable freeze” that has taken over the MK1 universe and “timeline,” and the studio suggests bringing “a jacket” if players want to survive the frozen scenario.

Along with announcing the launch of The Season of the Cryomancer, NetherRealm also let its fanbase know that Invasions Season 3 will continue up until February 13 next year, so players have a couple of months to go to fully experience the new winter-themed instalment.

In the latest Mortal Kombat 1 adventure, Sub-Zero seems to have gone astray and is now trying to attack the universe created by Liu Kang, as he is apparently trying to turn it into a “frozen hell.” The coldest Mortal Kombat character has come prepared and is not alone on his mission, thanks to a team called the “Legion of Cryomancers” that is accompanying him as he wreaks havoc on the timeline.

The trailer for the third Invasions season is presented in a wonderful art style that feels very comic book-esque and aesthetically pleasing, graphically explaining how Sub-Zero is adamant on conquering the universe. MK1 players will have to take on the icy villain and his ruthless team to help Liu Kang save the alternate timeline that he created.

In fact, Kang mentions multiple “timelines” in the announcement teaser, meaning that this time around, the scale is much greater than fans might have previously thought.

With the latest Invasions season, NetherRealm Studios is providing Mortal Kombat 1 players with the opportunity to “earn new skins and gear” for various fighters on its extensive roster. These include the Icy Edenian outfit for Kitana, the Winter History skin for Geras, and the intense new Frozen Daybreaker gear for Baraka, all of which fit into the central cold theme that Season 3 is going to be focusing on.

That is not all because Shang Tsung is also getting a Shivering Sorcerer outfit, Scorpion will be rocking a Cryoblaze skin, and continuing the ice-related puns, General Shao will don Snow Mountain gear.

NetherRealm seems to be going all out with the Winter theme with even more skins, including a Royal Rime one for Mileena, a Brisk Box Office outfit for Johnny Cage, and a Chilly Constable skin for Li Mei. Havik also makes an appearance in the Invasions Season 3 trailer, rocking his Frozen Chaos gear, while Tanya looks absolutely fabulous as the Frigid Guardian.

All of these skins can be unlocked while playing the mode in MK1 and opening various chests scattered all around, for example, the Cold-Blooded Predator skin for Reptile.

There are also numerous locked gates that players have to unlock using Cryomancer Hearts to progress through the third season of Invasions and find more chests with additional skins, such as the Icy Resolve outfit for Sub-Zero himself. NetherRealm also promises brand “new boss fights,” with the biggest one obviously being between the Fire God Liu Kang and Sub-Zero as the former tries to save the timeline from being obliterated.
