Jean Claude Van Damme makes an appearance in Mortal Kombat 1 as a Johnny Cage skin.

Back before Mortal Kombat was such a major franchise that had fans all across the world, it was going to be a completely different game as initially, the developers were looking more towards creating a game featuring Jean Claude Van Damme. Unfortunately, that project was cancelled before development began which led to the creation of Mortal Kombat.

Even though this cancelled game brought forward the creation of Mortal Kombat, that still didn’t stop the developers from working towards having some form of inclusion for Jean Claude Van Damme in their game. This is what led to the heavily inspired character Johnny Cage, who was inspired by the Mussels from Brussels also known as Frank Dux from Bloodsport.

Due to Johnny Cage being so heavily inspired by Jean Claude Van Damme and his many features like his physique, attitude, hairstyle, and even the fact he does his own stunts, it seems like such an achievement for NetherRealm Studios to acquire the likeness of Jean Claude Van Damme and even his voice acting for Johnny Cage throughout Mortal Kombat 1 as it brings this franchise full circle back to its roots.

Johnny Cage will be voiced by known actor Jean Claude Van Damme.

So far, Mortal Kombat has been going for over 30 years and has had many developers working on each instalment of the franchise. For those who have been here since the beginning, it is such a significant accomplishment as they have finally managed to get Jean Claude Van Damme to feature in one of their games.

Before Mortal Kombat was created, the developers of Mortal Kombat did attempt to contact Jean Claude Van Damme to create a game under his name, but sadly didn’t hear back. Luckily, this didn’t cause any friction between Jean Claude Van Damme and the Mortal Kombat developers, as they have even said during the Hot One’s interview that back then they were 20-something kids making a video game, so understandably, he would decline if the request got to him.

Now that Jean Claude Van Damme is making some form of appearance in Mortal Kombat, it feels as though it has come full circle for the developers and many of the fans are already excited to play Mortal Kombat 1 using this skin for Johnny Cage whilst hearing Jean Claude Van Damme become the voice of Johnny Cage.
