Ed Boon does what Ed Boon does and teases Monumental Mortal Kombat 1 SDCC Panel with THREE Trailers

If you hadn’t heard, San Diego Comic-Con is occurring this weekend. Well, from today until Sunday pretty much. As with any con that’d mean lots of cosplaying, the chance to meet the stars of your favourite games and television shows, as well as the odd bit of popculture news. SDCC does all that, but to the max.

There’s a plethora of upcoming panels for the biggest games releasing, including Tekken 8 and of course Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, but the talk of the town is the panel for Mortal Kombat 1, which Ed Boon is doing his usual mysterious schtick and amping it up without really having to try.

Mortal Kombat 1 is Looking Insane

Mortal Kombat 1

We’re sure you’re aware at this point, but Mortal Kombat 1 follows the timeline resetting antics of Mortal Kombat 11’s Aftermath DLC, where Liu Kang combined with Raiden and used Kronika’s hourglass to reset the timeline and change… well everything. Characters have been erased, others brought back from the dead and even character origins completely reworked. It’s safe to say Mortal Kombat 1 is going to be a fresh start for everyone.

With that fresh start comes the chance for original ideas, for example the backstory of Scorpion and Sub-Zero now being brothers, or the franchise finally getting Jean-Claude Van Damme to embody and portray Johnny Cage. It also allows for a balls-to-the-wall marketing campaign that is promising the world, which is exactly where we find ourselves now, after Ed Boon’s latest tweet sent Twitter into gaming meltdown.

We already expected the voice actors to be on stage, especially with Yuri Lowenthal making an appearance at the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 panel the day before, and it’d be a shock if the likes of Daisuke Tsuji (Smoke) and Jean Claude Van Damme (Johnny Cage) didn’t make an appearnace. What has really gotten fans of the franchise talking though, is the “+ Surprise!” at the end of the tweet, and what, or who it could possibly mean.

So far we figured we’d had all the biggest surprises already, with the new Kameo system, timeline and name resetting, Jean-Claude Van Damme being involved and everything else, it’s leaving fans wondering what else there is.

Between wishing into existence characters like Skarlet, Sonya Blade, Jade and more, as well as some inventive gameplay and outfit ideas, the fans seem to be clear in what we want. Everything. Absolutely everything.

The three trailers promised will certainly be the biggest drop of marketing for the game since the original announcement at that PlayStation Showcase, but it isn’t always about quantity, but quality. What the three trailers actually contain is anyone’s guess, but what do you expect to be shown? What do you want to be shown? Let us know in the comments!
