The recent games in the Mortal Kombat franchise have been subpar at best, and despite continuous efforts from NetherRealm Studios, they have failed to recreate the magic of early games. Many believe this boils down to lazy writing and a lack of innovation from the gaming studio.

A Twitter user, @RainyJady, pointed out how NetherRealm Studios’s creative writing is mediocre at best and highlighted a few instances where a direct comparison between the MCU and MK1 can be made.

The pulling of fighters from different realms is a very MCU-style concept, which we saw in Avengers: Endgame. Furthermore, the ending of the MK1 base game unites all the fighters against evil, which is reminiscent of the conclusion of Endgame as well.

Additionally, from what we have seen of the DLC gameplay, Titan Havik gives a similar vibe to what Thanos did in the MCU. One instance in particular, where Titan Havik can be seen channeling the power of what looks like multiple Kamidogus, is precisely like Thanos using the Infinity Stones.

The first impression of the DLC seems to be positive. NetherRealm Studios has continued the story from where they left off, with Titan Havik entering the fray. Liu Kang and company will take on the new challenge in an attempt to save the timeline once again.

Six new characters are also joining the fight, some of whom are from other notable franchises. Animalities are also returning after three decades, which is arguably the major attraction of the DLC. Although not confirmed, two new stages are being added to the game, and from the looks of it, they seem designed to personify chaos.

Given the initial response from fans, the Khaos Reign DLC is likely to be a success. However, whether it will improve the weak narrative of recent Mortal Kombat games remains to be seen. The DLC also aims to boost the player base by attracting players who quit the game after completing the main story.
