Earlier today the first Kombat Kast was held, or at least the first one for Mortal Kombat 1, and with it we got some very interesting reveals!

Kombat Kast – Who was Shown?

It has been leaked for a while, but we now have official confirmation that long-absent Rain is back, along with Smoke!

In a particularly gory gameplay trailer that shows a huge amount of the story off, Rain and Smoke look to be helping Sub-Zero and Scorpion in their attempt to put themselves as the leaders of the Earth Realm? There’s nothing shown as to if this is against Liu Kang’s wishes or not, however.

Having been involved in the Mortal Kombat franchise since the early years, playable firstly in Mortal Kombat 3, some fans have been less than impressed with the absence of Rain, with him not having a direct appearance for a few years. That has now changed. Not only is he turning up, he’s turning up in a big way, with some gloriously disgusting and over-the-top attacks and fatalities.

Sektor has famously been a long-time antagonist of Sub-Zero and Scorpion, with his insanity being a principally driving point behind his actions, mostly as an ally of the villains of the series. Appearing in his cyborg form in Mortal Kombat 3, he’s the former Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei and the Cyber Lin Kuei. For now it looks like he’s just a Kameo fighter, alongside the other featured Kameo’s, Sektor, Cyrax, and Frost.

The trailer also introduces Smoke, a fellow member of the ancient warrior clan with a mastery of stealth and practical magic. With deep ties to Scorpion and Sub-Zero, Smoke has made the clan’s mission his own and joins his Lin Kuei brethren in defense of Earthrealm. This’ll be surprising to many fans as Smoke hasn’t been seen for a good long while, but this is the benefit of a timeline reset!

Many questioned the changes in the established characters with the released character bio’s, but after this gameplay trailer, we have a better idea of what NetherRealm are going for.
