Known for starring in TV series like Justified and Invincible, Walton Goggins is sharing the screen with the Emmy-nominated actor Pedro Pascal in his new film, The Uninvited. The movie follows Rose, whose dinner party is crashed by a stranger, leading to a night of emotional turmoil as she confronts her past, including a former flame and the sacrifices she’s made for her family.
The film, which recently premiered at the SXSW, has been receiving positive reviews for the story, its direction, and the cast’s performance. And Goggins has recently shared that it is actually inspired by a real-life incident he experienced while hosting a similar party with his wife and film director Nadia Conners.
The Incident that Inspired Walton Goggins’ New Film The Uninvited
In a recent conversation with Variety, the 52-year-old actor Walton Goggins and Nadia Conners reflected on the incident that inspired their new film The Uninvited. He recalled that the incident happened when he and his wife, Conners, were getting ready to host a cocktail party.
Out of nowhere, a confused and disoriented elderly woman showed up at their Los Angeles house. Convinced that it was her own house, she asked Conners to help her with her malfunctioning garage door, stating that her clicker wasn’t working.
“She thought she was home,” the film’s director recalled. Conners further shared that she tried to look through her phonebook, in an attempt to reach out to someone who could help with the situation. “But most of the people in it were dead,” she shared before adding, “She had outlived her circle of friends.”
After the police assisted the elderly woman, Conners recounted sharing the incident at the party and how it impacted her, only to receive a dismissive response from her guests, “Great, you got her back home.” However, Goggins emphasized that this encounter offered them a glimpse into the realities of aging and mortality.
Pedro Pascal Charms Audiences in The Uninvited
Nadia Conners’ comedy-drama, The Uninvited features the beloved actor Pedro Pascal in the role of Lucien, a theater actor and the ex-boyfriend of Elizabeth Reaser’s character, who crashes the lavish Hollywood party hosted by Rose and Sammy.
Despite his late appearance, Pascal’s portrayal of Lucien becomes pivotal to the film’s unfolding storyline, adding layers of complexity and depth. Critics have lauded Pascal’s performance, highlighting his on-screen chemistry with Reaser and Goggins, as well as his ability to convey the complexities of his character’s past and present.
Whether delivering witty one-liners or delving into emotional revelations, Pascal’s performance leaves a lasting impression in The Uninvited. Along with Pascal, Reaser, and Walton Goggins have also earned praise for their performances.
Nadia Conners has also received praise for skillfully weaving a narrative that blends personal storytelling with an insightful exploration of the challenges women encounter as they age. The Uninvited premiered at SXSW 2024 and is currently seeking U.S. distribution.
