The future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise is leaning towards a more diverse, nostalgic, and culturally enriching path. Ubisoft sees the value of its take on the action stealth genre and means to push forward in a generation where the game space is oversaturated with multiplayer and battle royale games with a twist of their own, showing how well they can adapt to the times as their games adapt through time as well.
According to a leak reported by Insider Gaming, the following years for Ubisoft are going to be pretty busy which will surely satisfy the fans, if the leaks are true that is. Openly known for setting their games in specific periods in time, the developers got more and more creative as previous titles indicate like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey taking place in Greece, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in Norway, and the recent entry Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set at Baghdad.
Assassin’s Creed Beyond the Past and Behind the Future
Remakes of older titles are common nowadays, it would make sense for Ubisoft to do the same with their much older and dated Assassin’s Creed games and develop ports for current-gen machines like the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and whatever Nintendo has up their sleeves.
Remasters can also be an option to preserve legacy titles and make them more accessible which was executed with Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered, the Ezio collection which features Assassin’s Creed 2, Brotherhood, and Revelations, and the Assassin’s Creed: Rebel collection that consists of Assassin’s Creed 4, Black Flag and Rogue. It certainly sounds like a mouthful but all are worthy of being part of the franchise.
According to the recent rumors / leaks by Insider Gaming, the current strategy for #AssassinsCreed is
🔴 Red – 2024
⚪️ Invictus (multiplayer) – 2025
🟢 Hexe – 2026Beyond:
🔵 Obsidian (Black Flag Remake)
⚫️ Another Assassin’s Creed Remake
🟠 Nebula (settings in India, Aztec… pic.twitter.com/HKJx0QGFWz— Access The Animus (@AccessTheAnimus) February 26, 2024
This year’s installment is codenamed Red, followed by a multiplayer title that could presumably their version of modern co-op games and a third game with a codename Hexe for 2026. Beyond that is a plethora of remakes and newer ideas to explore the culture that it is based on. The franchise uses history as their strongest asset which gives developers the freedom to bring assets and details for players to mess around with and eventually learn, one of the benefits of gaming.
World Cruise With Assassin’s Creed
Fans have been begging Ubisoft to create a new game set in feudal Japan with samurai or ninja like protagonist, unfortunately PlayStation’s Ghost of Tsushima beat them to it.
The leaks indicate that they may visit India, an opportunity to promote the culture and explore the lore of the country, even the Aztec empire as well as Mediterranean. Recent works have proven that cultural representation is effective, this franchise has done that since they started and should consider producing newer entries and not waste resources on multiplayer titles or remakes.
Ubisoft is committed to the Assassin’s Creed franchise and acknowledges the potential to adapt with modern gaming like co-op while satisfying legacy fans with remakes and for those that want a new experience. Are you excited for the future of Assassin’s Creed? Let us know in the comments below!
