Brendan Fraser has been gone from the theater screens for far too long. After his last successful movie, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008, the actor simply took a drop. After many failures later, the star is all back to take the glory once more as Brendan Fraser readies himself for The Whale.

Brendan Fraser’s Vengence Against Hollywood

Born in the late 60s, Brendan Fraser is best known for his action movies in Hollywood. Starring as Rick O’Connell in The Mummy franchise, the actor was adored and loved by all. After his movies saw a drop, the Inkheart actor was last seen in theaters in ages past. Following his return in the upcoming movie The Whale, fans now adore the actor even more as he denies attending the Golden Globe Awards.

As per recent rumors, Brendan Fraser is currently in a position to ‘win’ the Oscars for The Whale since the movie offers a promising storyline (and no doubt about Fraser’s acting skills). But if it gets picked up for the Oscars, it most definitely will also get picked up for the Golden Globes. When asked about whether he would attend, Brendan Fraser had some thoughts about the situation.

“I have more history with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association than I have respect for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. No, I will not participate. It’s because of the history that I have with them. And my mother didn’t raise a hypocrite. You can call me a lot of things, but not that.”

For context, the Golden Globe Awards are hosted and run by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) every year. The reason Fraser was ignored by Hollywood is due to a controversy that the actor found himself in with the HFPA.

Philip Berk, a former president of the HFPA had sexually assaulted and groped Brendan Fraser. The controversy created a ruckus for Fraser as the former had support and tried to cover it up. On the other side, however, the George of the Jungle actor was shunned by Hollywood for years and was not given proper films to act in. The actor also faced a lot of mental as well as physical health issues following the controversy and he shut the door to Hollywood life for quite a while.

Following his years-long absence from Hollywood, Brendan Fraser is finally back and ready to face the world again as he acts as an obese and reclusive English teacher trying to reconnect with his teenage estranged daughter in The Whale.

The Whale is slated for a release date of 9th December 2022 in theaters and also features Sadie Sink as the daughter.
