Charlie Cox’s Daredevil’s solo debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been long due now. After his successful portrayal of the superhero in three seasons of the Netflix series, Cox is said to reprise his popular role in Daredevil: Born Again. Last seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk, and set to appear in Echo, fans have been eagerly waiting for his solo series.
However, the actor isn’t sure how much longer he can play due to the physical toll of the role. Furthermore, the project keeps getting delayed due to various internal and external reasons.
Charlie Cox’s Major Concern For Playing Daredevil
When Charlie Cox was given the chance to portray Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he was ‘over the moon‘. From the Netflix universe, his is the only character Kevin Feige has accepted into the larger mythos of the MCU. However, the project has been facing many challenges.
The series shoot was supposed to start in 2023 and end by the year-end. But with the actors’ and writers’ strike, the shoot was stopped in mid-production. During this, Feige and other Marvel executives had a creative flare leading to letting go of the old team and hiring new writers and directors, with much of the already shot content being cut down to embrace the new storyline.
And now Cox has revealed his major concern regarding the character. In an interview with NME, he stated he cannot keep playing the character for long,
“How much longer at my age can I play the lead in a superhero film or TV show? Not very long, probably. I don’t remember the last time I didn’t have any [physical] issues. My shoulder’s done. My knees are in bad shape. My back’s gone.”
With the shoot being delayed and Cox’s statement, it would be interesting to see how the series pans out and how long will it run. But for now, the actor is fully determined to nail his role again.
Charlie Cox Is Excited To Play Daredevil Again
After his successful feat as the superhero in the Netflix series, Charlie Cox is incredibly grateful to play Daredevil again. Even though the actor hasn’t had the chance to play as diverse characters as he has been wanting to and dabble across different genres, he maintains that Daredevil remains the closest to his heart.
While talking to NME, he remarks,
“You have to do everything in your power to enjoy the moments of success when you’re experiencing them… I’m incredibly grateful Daredevil’s coming back. I love playing this character.”
Although he might be a bit older to play an action hero, Cox is incredibly determined and wants to hold on to his memorable character as long as he can, while delivering all he possibly can.
Daredevil: Born Again will premiere in 2024 on Disney+.
