National Treasure producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently spoke to Collider to give an update on the upcoming third film in the franchise, but also dropped the revelation of a new Disney+ series in the works.

“We’re certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen. Hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure, but they’re both very active….The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept but a young cast. The one for theatrical would be the same cast.”

Disney+

Variety had previously reported that Bad Boys For Life screenwriter Chris Bremmer was writing the next National Treasure installment for Nicholas Cage and director Jon Turtletaub.

But this new “younger” National Treasure Disney+ series is the first we’ve heard of it. Bruckheimer went on to add:

“The film version is being written right now. The television version is in process. We have a pilot script done and an outline of the future episodes.”

I’ve always been a fan of the the films. They are big, goofy adventures that remain fun for the whole family. Because of their family friendly tone, its no surprise they’d try and tap into that genre on Disney+. As a parent myself, this series could be a blast to watch with my kids. Perhaps we can cast Nicholas Cage in supporting role for the pilot at least? Or maybe they go the way of the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, and cast a young Nicholas Cage to play a teenage Benjamin Franklin Gates?

National Treasure characters

Its been 13 years since the sequel, National Treasure: Book Of Secrets where Gates had to break into the White House and kidnap the President of the United States. And I can’t wait to see what the next adventure will entail.
