Narrative Director Navid Khavari’s promise of customizable viewing modes is a much-welcome addition among these. With forced aspect ratios being such a common occurrence in games these days, it’s refreshing to see Outlaws take a more player-friendly direction.

Star Wars Outlaws Will Let You Customize Your Viewing Mode

In a 2023 interview with Game Informer, Khavari spoke about how the game will cater to different monitor sizes and screens, allowing for more flexibility.

Outlaws will offer multiple viewing modes, which you can choose depending on your preference. Most likely, whatever aspect ratio your monitor has, the game will be able to adapt. As Khavari himself puts it:

Star Wars Outlaws will absolutely allow players to enjoy the game in a variety of different ways, whether that is ultrawide as shown at announce or regular 16:9.

This is a much-appreciated feature, as modern titles often lack that critical support for ultrawide monitors, and you end up left with giant black bars on the sides of the screen.

Take the Assassin’s Creed series, for example. The newer titles offer ultrawide support and 4K resolution. The older ones are locked to a 16:9 ratio, where you’re stuck with being boxed in to the middle of the screen (thankfully, workarounds exist). Hopefully, as time passes, more companies will follow suit and offer better flexibility with viewing modes.

The Outlaws Team Went All-in to Give It a Cinematic Feel

Khavari was also asked about the visual tricks the team employed to amplify the cinematic feel of the game.

He revealed that the goal for Star Wars Outlaws was to capture the essence of the iconic film series by integrating multiple elements inspired by the franchise’s classic era:

A lot of work has gone into producing this classic original trilogy look and feel for the game.

From barrel distortion to lens flare and film grain, every visual aspect was carefully added to make people feel nostalgic.

The director himself is quite a big fan of the original Star Wars trilogy, so it’ll be exciting to see how the final product turns out on its release date, August 30th, 2024.

When the Outlaws team initially crafted the story for the game, it dreamed up what it’d be like to be a sneaky scoundrel in the Star Wars universe and came up with Kay Vess.

It decided to slot its story between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, making it part of the canon timeline.
