The DCU films in the Zack Snyder era were undoubtedly divisive among fans. The discourse around the films has mostly steered towards the negative side with many feeling underwhelmed by the undercooked narratives and the unsatisfying world-building. While there were bright spots such as Wonder Woman, Shazam!, and Aquaman, others were not received as well as the three.
In addition to Max, Netflix also streamed most of the DCU films of that era, making them accessible to people all over the world, especially in countries where Max is not available yet. Unfortunately, it seems Netflix is now removing various DC titles from its content by the end of March 2024.
Netflix Reportedly Removing 11 DC Films By The End of March 2024
Last year in November, Netflix announced that they were adding major DC films as part of their content starting from December 1, as part of a contract between them and WB. This move was beneficial for them as it made the movies more popular and accessible for people as Netflix has a much larger reach among audiences than Max. CEO David Zaslav called a great move that improved the quality of the DC titles (via The Wrap).
However, after 4 months, it seems that the contract between them has ended as Netflix recently announced that 11 DC titles would be leaving the streamer on March 31. The DC films leaving the streamer include Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, 2017’s Justice League, Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984, 2019’s Shazam!, 2016’s Suicide Squad, and Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).
Relatively newer DC films from the 2020s are also slated to be removed including James Gunn‘s The Suicide Squad, Black Adam, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods. After this removal, Netflix will be left without any DCU film on the streamer which is sad news for fans who don’t have Max in their region. Fans should catch up on these films before they leave Netflix.
Zack Snyder Is Confused By The Harsh Reactions to Rebel Moon
Zack Snyder‘s filmography has been a subject of debate among cinephiles. Some consider him an auteur filmmaker and others just do not like his trademark style of telling stories. His DCU films have been highly divisive and his recent Netflix film Rebel Moon received scathing reviews. In a recent interview with Empire, the director revealed his confusion by the film’s polarizing reactions.
Snyder stated that all his films have somehow been very divisive among fans and he is aware of the negative reactions Rebel Moon got. Snyder further pointed out that the film does not have any scenes, provocative enough to generate such harsh reactions to his film. He said,
“I don’t really have a rebuttal to the reviews. For whatever reason, the reaction to my movies is very polarizing, and it always has been. The movie, it doesn’t seem like there’s that much in it that would warrant such visceral responses.”
Despite the negative reviews, Snyder is returning with a sequel to Rebel Moon titled Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver. The director has teased a more thrilling return to the Rebel Moon world with the sequel with a heavier emphasis on the action. It will be released on Netflix on April 19, 2024.
