Netflix has officially cancelled The Punisher and Jessica Jones. There will be no more on-going Marvel series on Netflix after season 3 of Jessica Jones.

Netflix has officially cancelled The Punisher and Jessica Jones. They’ve previously cancelled the other Marvel shows including Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. There will be no more remaining on-going Marvel series on Netflix after season three of Jessica Jones.

Season three of Jessica Jones will still be released later this year, marking the conclusion of Marvel and Netflix’s partnership. Netflix said the following in a statement:

“Marvel’s The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix. Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal, delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come. In addition, in reviewing our Marvel programming, we have decided that the upcoming third season will also be the final season for Marvel’s Jessica Jones. We are grateful to showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, star Krysten Ritter and the entire cast and crew, for three incredible seasons of this groundbreaking series, which was recognized by the Peabody Awards among many others. We are grateful to Marvel for five years of our fruitful partnership and thank the passionate fans who have followed these series from the beginning.”

Hulu might be interested in picking up Daredevil and fellow Marvel shows. While Hulu may want to resurrect the Defenders series on their platform, they would have to wait, as a clause in the original contract between Marvel TV and Netflix states that the characters cannot appear in any television shows or movies for two years. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
