Netflix already stands far ahead of the other streaming services. It’s needless to say that it is the king of all streamers. Having a subscriber base of over two hundred million and constantly maintaining it is no joke! Netflix does that with relative ease by constantly offering us more and more content. Their content catalog is massive, and from 2019 onwards, they’ve started to invest an enormous amount of money in their feature-length films. Well, that isn’t going to stop now as they’ve bought the rights to Daniel Craig and Rian Johnson’s Knives Out sequels.

According to Variety, a surprise discrete auction happened for Knives Out 2 & 3 recently. It was probably an all-out war of the streamers that took place between Netflix, Apple, and Amazon. Ultimately, Netflix has won. They’ve closed the deal at $450 million for the two upcoming sequels that Rian Johnson has written. This is the biggest movie purchase in history. Lionsgate distributed the first Knives Out, which came out in 2019 and lit up the Box Office. It had cost just $40 million and ended up making over $311 million. Now, the sequels have found themselves in an even better position.

Production & Potential Release

Netflix has been willing to hold strong franchises, and it’s safe to say that they’ve got a pretty strong one with Knives Out. Not much is known about the sequels, but we know for a fact that Daniel Craig is set to return as Detective Benoit Blanc. Deadline reports that Rian Johnson & Craig will begin with the production on June 28, 2021. With this filming window, we could end up getting Knives Out 2 in late 2022, or perhaps in 2023.

The case of Harlan Thrombey’s murder was solved in the first one. It’d be interesting to see what other complex mysteries Johnson has to offer us in the coming two sequels. We previously got an all-star cast with the likes of Chris Evans, Michael Shannon, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Katherine Langford, and Christopher Plummer starring alongside Daniel Craig. So, we should expect some other big names to be a part of both Knives Out 2 & 3.
