Dallas Liu wants to see more of Zuko’s relationship with his mother in Avatar: The Last Airbender

Avatar: The Last Airbender was an animated series created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko that aired from 2005 to 2008. The series revolved around the story of Aang, the last Airbender who would bring an end to 100 years of war and establish an era of peace.

Netflix recently adapted the popular animated series into a live-action which has been a massive critical success among the fans. In the series, Prince Zuko is the son of the main antagonist, Fire Lord Ozai. In the very first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Ozai ends up giving his son a nasty scar on the face and later banishes him from the kingdom after defeating him in a duel.

In a recent interview with The Direct, Dallas Liu who portrayed the role of Prince Zuko in the first season of the series, opened up about how he would like the series to explore his character’s relationship with his mother, Ursa. He said,

“One thing that would be really cool to me is if they touched on Zuko and Azula’s mother more in our series… That’d be cool to get to see Azula’s relationship with her mom.”

Although Ursa’s story was never explored as such in the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series, it sure would be cool to find the reason why she is not a part of the royal family and how she came to be banished from it.

There are many challenges that come with casting child actors in a series and one of the most prominent reasons for them is the syncing of the growing age of the star with the timeline of events in the series.

In a recent interview with The Direct, Dallas Liu talked about how they should start the filming of the next season of the series as soon as possible. According to the American actor, Gordon Cormier who portrays the role of Aang in the series is growing too fast and they should hurry with the filming of the series. He said,

“Gosh, Gordon [Cormier’s] getting so big, bro. We got to get it done. I want to say–I’d love… This is what I’m hoping for. I’m hoping that we start at least before August… I mean, we don’t even know how many episodes we’re going to get either”
