Elizabeth Olsen has played the role of Wanda Maximoff a.k.a Scarlet Witch in the MCU since Avengers: Age of Ultron. From being a brainwashed member of Hydra to being one of the OG Avengers, the character has had an interesting arc in the MCU, which seemingly ended in 2022’s Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.

However, Scarlet Witch had one of her most powerful and tragic moments in Avengers: Infinity War where she had to protect Vision, who possessed the Mind Stone, from the Black Order. While there are some amazing scenes with the actress in the film, fans seem to be annoyed at the MCU for deleting a pivotal sequence from the movie.

Elizabeth Olsen quickly became a fan favorite when she starred as Wanda Maximoff in the MCU. Making her franchise debut with Avengers: Age of Ultron, Olsen brought the perfect vulnerability to the character as she faced hardships and obstacles in her journey from being an antagonist to an Avenger. She appeared in multiple films in the franchise.

While Captain America: Civil War saw her get closer to Paul Bettany’s Vision, Olsen’s character had to face her most trying test yet when she had to protect Vision from the Black Order, who were out to get the Mind Stone. In Avengers: Infinity War, the couple is attacked by Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive in Edinburgh.

While the two fight them off, they seem to be no match for the Black Order, and Vision is almost subdued when Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers makes an appearance and saves them along with Sam Wilson and Natasha Romanoff. However, an extended scene shows the Scarlet Witch fighting off Proxima Midnight in a cool action sequence (via X).

The scene, which was still in at pre-viz stage, shows the Scarlet Witch battling off Proxima Midnight with her powers. Two stunt doubles stand in for Elizabeth Olsen and the CGI Proxima as they chase and fight along a long corridor of an Edinburgh castle. The scene had some VFX to indicate Olsen’s powers and Midnight’s staff.

At 149 minutes, Avengers: Infinity War had one of the longest runtimes in the MCU. With the sheer amount of heroes present in the film and a story that traversed galaxies, directors Anthony and Joe Russo had to delete some sequences from the film. Unfortunately, one of the victims of the cut was Elizabeth Olsen’s tense scene with the Black Order in Edinburgh.

A deleted scene of Avengers: Infinity War resurfaced online as the film celebrated its six-year-anniversary. The scene establishes a tension-filled atmosphere as Wanda and Vision hide after the latter is shot by the Black Order. Olsen waits in silence as Proxima Midnight stands atop a bridge, hitting her staff on the ground to intimidate the heroes.

Many fans appreciated the horror-esque sequence and how it built suspense. The scene then leads to the showdown between the characters, ultimately leading up to Captain America’s heroic appearance. Fans were disappointed at the MCU for deciding to cut the scene as it added to the dark atmosphere of the film.

While Avengers: Infinity War remains a classic in the MCU and a pop cultural milestone, there were still some scenes that the team had already shot that would have made it much better. The film still earned over $2 billion at the box office (via Box Office Mojo).
