In 2023, Snyder brought his vision to the world of science fiction with “Rebel Moon” and then its sequel “The Scargiver.” While Rebel Moon promised a sprawling space adventure, critical reception was mixed at best. Given the underwhelming reviews of the duology, rumors had been running of the series shutting down. However, an industry insider recently debunked this particular rumor.

Set on a peaceful moon named Veldt, Rebel Moon centers on a farming colony threatened by the tyrannical forces of the Motherworld. Led by the ruthless General Belisarius, the Motherworld’s military, the Imperium, descends upon Veldt, seeking to exploit its resources and subjugate its people.

Facing this insurmountable threat, the desperate colonists turn to Kora, a young woman with a mysterious past. Tasked with recruiting warriors from across the galaxy, Kora embarks on a desperate mission to assemble a ragtag resistance force and defend Veldt from the Imperium’s onslaught.

The world of the story is too big to fit inside just a couple of projects. The first two movies were released just a few months apart and there are already plans to make more. As per The Hollywood Reporter, the script of the third movie was in the works before the second was released.

However, with the mixed reception of Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver, rumors of the series being scrapped have been doing rounds. Industry insider Daniel Richtman recently took to X to clarify that no such statement has been made by any person associated with the film.

Thus, it is safe to assume that Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon is not going anywhere anytime soon. Fans will get to see more of it in the upcoming years until Netflix itself shelves it off.

Rebel Moon‘s writer Kurt Johnstad shed some light on the future of the franchise in an interview with Screenrant. He revealed that the series was initially conceived as a trilogy of movies and the first movie was then split into two parts – A Child of Fire and The Scargiver, both of which are currently streaming on Netflix.

According to him, the series will have a total of six movies, which is essentially a trilogy being split into two movies each. He also revealed that Snyder had started working on the script of the third movie.

“So when I say six movies, it’s really a trilogy with each movie being two parts. That’s how we’re thinking of it now. But, again, a lot of things have to happen…. But that’s what we want to do. We want to give fans six movies or a trilogy in two parts each…. Actually, Zack has already started writing because he’s like that. I think he’s already written the first thirty pages of movie three.”

Snyder then provided some more clarification in an interview with RadiotimesHe revealed that the series will be four or six movies depending on whether they will split the other two movies of the trilogy as they did with the first one. Besides the new movies, the director’s cut for A Child of Fire and The Scargiver are set to release somewhere around August 2024.
