Santa Monica Studio announced God of War Ragnarök Valhalla DLC at The Game Awards 2023 and left everyone stunned, because even though it was rumored that a DLC was coming for the game, it wasn’t expected that Sony and PlayStation would reveal it at the Game Awards.

What surprised the fans more was that the DLC would be free for everyone with a copy of the game. The DLC expansion has now been released and players are at it. However, the newly added difficulty mode in the DLC is so hard that even the developers haven’t been able to beat it.

God of War Ragnarök Valhalla DLC Adds a New Difficulty Mode

God of War Ragnarök has several difficulty modes to choose for players with certain kinds of experiences, from story to intense combat. There are five difficulty modes in the game; Give Me Story, Give Me Grace, Give Me Balance, Give Me No Mercy, and Give Me God of War. The newly released DLC has taken this further and has a new difficulty mode called Show Me Mastery.

There are five difficulty settings in the DLC, and Show Me Mastery is the newly added mode that sees players make use of every skill they have learned in the main game, and use them to defeat the opponents. For players who like to play intense combat-filled modes, this is perfect for them, and has a 40% rewards bonus. The DLC is a roguelite expansion so players can change the difficulty mode between attempts.

According to Mihir Sheth, the director of the DLC, there is an endgame in the difficulty mode Show Me Mastery, and it is so hard that even the game developers have failed to beat it. Sheth took to X/Twitter to reveal this and said that the developers are curious to see if players could beat it or if they have finally beaten the players. The tweet reads:

There is an endgame challenge in #GodOfWarRagnarokValhalla that no one on the dev team has completed on the hardest difficulty ‘Show Me Mastery’. I am so, so curious to see how quickly players will humble us.. as they often do… but maybe this time we’ve beaten them?

Players have always surprised the developers at Santa Monica as they have beaten the challenges and opponents notoriously fast. For example, a player beat Queen Gna in the base game in just eleven seconds surprising the community. Another player beat Thor with just one hand and both of these were in the highest difficulty modes, so it can be understood why the devs would challenge the players, adding that they are expecting to be humbled.

However, Sheth did not reveal which endgame the developers failed to beat, so players will have to play the expansion in the Show Me Mastery mode to find out the endgame, which probably seems like it can’t be beaten in the first attempt. Although the community has always loved the challenges that have been presented by the developers, this new endgame might cause headaches for some.

The developers have challenged the players and are curious to see if they can beat it.

The DLC takes players to a new place, the titular Valhalla, and the story of the expansion serves as the epilogue for Kratos. It sees him and Mimir go to Valhalla and take on his opponents from the past and make decisions for his future. The players have loved the DLC so far as the reception has been so good that gamers have even questioned how the developers gave the expansion for free.

It is also reported that the expansion has a ton to offer and players would even require 8-10 hours if they want to see and experience everything. Additionally, the base game’s writer Orion Walker teased players that the “credits” in the expansion aren’t the end of the story and there is more to come. This has left players curious and intrigued as to what could be next for Kratos.
