Marvel Studios’ Blade has been one of the most highly anticipated projects, especially because of Academy Award-winner Mahershala Ali, who is expected to star in the titular role. However, the project has failed to get off the ground and faced numerous obstacles that have delayed production on the much-awaited reboot, following the original trilogy of films starring Wesley Snipes.

A new report from insider Daniel Richtman now indicates that the film has finally locked its story. However, this new iteration of the story will see Kit Harington’s Black Knight take a backstep in favor of a sinister villain with deep ties to Blade in the comics. Furthermore, the villain’s rumored addition could also impact the R-rated take the film is expected to deliver on the saga of the titular Daywalker. Here are the latest updates regarding Mahershala Ali’s Blade shared by insider Daniel Richtman.

Mahershala Ali’s Blade Will Reportedly Feature Lilith as the Main Villain

A new film focusing on the Marvel Comics character Blade was announced back in 2019 with Mahershala Ali cast in the role. However, since then the project has undergone several changes and was reworked under different directors and screenwriters. Presently, Yann Demange is attached as a director while Michael Green is writing the screenplay for Blade.

According to insider Daniel Richtman, aka Daniel RPK (via Murphy’s Multiverse), details regarding Green’s screenplay have cropped up. A report from Richtman revealed that Lilith, who is typically portrayed as Dracula’s daughter in the comics, will serve as the primary antagonist of the film. Lilith is a powerful demon with sorcery powers who has been a foil to Blade in the comics.

The report also suggests that the film feature Mia Goth, who was reportedly cast in the film in April 2023, as Lilith, who will be after Blade’s daughter. Lilith will seek the blood of Blade’s daughter to create an army of Daywalkers. However, details such as Lilith’s motivations and powers in the film were not revealed by the report. Nonetheless, Lilith’s presence hints that the film will have an R-rating as suggested by Yann Demange in November 2023.

Lilith Will Have an Unexpected Connection to Kit Harington’s Black Knight

The report from Daniel RPK also indicated that Mia Goth’s Lilith will be connected to Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman / Black Knight. The character was first introduced in the MCU in 2021’s Eternals. In the film’s post-credits scene, Whitman finds the Ebony Blade, which will seemingly be connected with the story of Blade.

According to the rumors, Lilith will wield the Ebony Blade to target Blade and obtain his daughter’s blood. While the report states that the Ebony Blade will appear in the film, there is currently no confirmation on whether Harington will also reprise his role.

Producer Nate Moore had previously teased the connection between Blade and the Ebony Blade back in 2021.

“Cause the Ebony Blade, the characteristics of the Ebony Blade are not dissimilar to some degree to vampirism and we think that’s an interesting kind of thing to play with. So we kind of knew that was on the table.”

Moore made the above statement, explaining the voice-over of Mahershala Ali’s Blade in the post-credits scene of Eternals. Stephane Ceretti, who worked as the VFX Supervisor on Eternals, also hinted that the Ebony Blade would appear in Blade.

Hence, if the latest reports are to be believed Ebony Blade will be linked to Lilith instead of Kit Harington’s Black Knight in Blade. The film is currently slated to release on November 7, 2025.
