Senior Vice President of Platform Experience, Hideaki Nishino, had the following to say on the latest update;

“Today, we’re thrilled to roll out a new PS5 system software beta that introduces new accessibility features as well as audio options that allow 3D Audio powered by Tempest 3D AudioTech to be enjoyed on compatible Dolby Atmos-enabled HDMI devices such as sound bars, TVs, or home theater systems.”

He followed this up by touching on the other features which would be available;

“The beta also includes more options to quickly find games and console tips, new ways to connect with other players and customize your multiplayer sessions, and support for larger-capacity M.2 SSDs (up to 8TB).”

The PlayStation 5 update Beta is sadly only available to participants on invite and only in some selected countries. Those chosen, will receive an invitation via email and advised of when the Beta is ready for download. Hideaki Nishino did advise that the update will be released globally towards the end of the year.

However the announcement has been met with mixed reactions, with fans on Twitter quick to voice their opinions;

“I’m really loving this. I also agree with everyone who says that themes and new avatars should make a comeback. Since when do you guys hate money? Last but not least, if anyone gets a platinum trophy for a first party game, they should all get the special avatar WORLDWIDE.”

“These features are nice and all, but given developers of late can’t seem to get their games to run consistently above 48fps in performance modes it might be time to lower the VRR floor to 30hz and implement system ready LFC if possible.”

It would seem that there is still a bit of work to be done to satisfy the MANY MANY demands of the fans!
