So far, there have been a few different games that have been released this year, and Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of those games that took the world by storm. Back in August, it was released on PC, and gamers flocked to the game. Subsequently, it was released on PlayStation in September and received lots of positive responses from gamers.
This left many gamers wondering as to when Baldur’s Gate 3 will release to Xbox consoles, as there were reported delays within the game’s release to said console. According to a recent report, Baldur’s Gate 3 could be released for Xbox One Series X/S by the beginning of December, but this isn’t guaranteed.
Why Was Baldur’s Gate 3 Delayed on Xbox Consoles?
As stated above, Baldur’s Gate 3 was originally released on PC back in August and eventually released on PlayStation in September, which left many Xbox users wondering where their version of the game was.
The reasoning behind this delay is down to the fact that within Baldur’s Gate 3 there is a split-screen feature, which sadly could not be run effectively on an Xbox Series S. This led to a few issues within development, as Microsoft has a policy that states any game released for these consoles needs to have the same features.
Because of this policy, Larian has to work around these issues in an attempt to keep this feature within the game but have it work on both consoles. Unfortunately, this became too much of a problem for Larian and eventually led to a mutual conclusion with Phil Spencer, which determined the split-screen feature would no longer be necessary for the games launch on Xbox Series S.
Now that this feature is no longer holding back Baldur’s Gate 3’s release on the Xbox Series S, it has been revealed by Larian Studio’s CEO Swen Vincke in a post to Twitter/X that Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently undergoing playtests and could release to Xbox consoles at the beginning of December.
What Could Delay Baldur’s Gate 3 Even Further Than It Has Already Been Delayed?
At the moment, Baldur’s Gate 3 is still undergoing development before its release to Xbox Series X/S, but many fans are wondering what could delay this launch further than it has already been delated, especially since the game is currently taking part in playtests.
Thanks to the mutual conclusion between Larian Studios and Microsoft, there is now an opportunity for Baldur’s Gate 3 to progress within its development and release to Xbox Series X/S within the next month.
However, when it comes to playtests, there are always bound to be issues that can arise that could ultimately cause a major delay in the game’s release. Something as simple as a bug could completely derail the game and its release on the Xbox Series X/S.
Depending on how these playtests turn out could determine the game’s release, especially if any bugs are found within the game, as the early December release date is only an expected release date at this time and is subject to change depending on whether Larian Studios feels the game is in a good place.
If any issues are found within Baldur’s Gate 3 during this playtest, it could mean that there could be an even larger delay until next year. Hopefully this does not happen, as many of the bugs that could occur within Baldur’s Gate 3 should already have been encountered during the release on PC and PlayStation, but as always in game development, issues can always appear at the worst time.
