A new set video for Thor: Love and Thunder has been doing rounds, dramatizing the destruction of the Mjönlir by Hela in Thor: Ragnarok. For those who don’t remember, Thor’s beloved hammer was destroyed in the early moments of Taika Waititi’s Ragnarok.

After getting pushed back initially, thanks to the coronavirus outbreak, the production for the fourth film in the Thor franchise is finally in full swing. Images from the set have been emerging since work has begun at the beginning of this year. Along with Thor’s new look, new photos also depict the rebuilding of Asgard where another dramatization will occur, re-creating Odin’s death instead of Loki’s fake death followed by the appearance of Hela in Ragnarok.

Thanks to XRealm Matthews, a new video from the film’s set reveals a glimpse at the play scene in Ragnarok, showing Luke Hemsworth as fake Thor, Matt Damon as fake Loki, and Melissa McCarthy as fake Hela. The footage shows Hela crushing the Mjölnir followed by Luki calling Heimdall to take him and Thor back to Asgard. Here’s the video:

This is interesting as the Mjölnir is expected to play a significant role in Love and Thunder and Hemsworth’s body double was also seen wielding the hammer which indicates that it will appear in the film. Apart from that, Jane Foster is also expected to wield the hammer, becoming the Mighty Thor in the film. Thereby, seeing it getting destroyed only adds to the mystery of its return in the upcoming sequel. In its last appearance, the weapon was used by both Thor and Captain America during the final battle in Avengers: Endgame. However, the end of Endgame saw Captain America taking Mjölnir back to its original timeline so a branched timeline doesn’t get created – as promised to Ancient One by Hulk.

While Ragnarok ended up destroying some key Thor elements, Love and Thunder seem to bring some of them back. However, we also hope that there’s a justified reason for Mjölnir’s return else it may only lessen the impact of its destruction which also brought in several less for Thor.
