Nicolas Cage, one of the most talented actors of our time is not a stranger to comic book movies. We have seen him having a history with Marvel, first portraying the anti-hero Ghost Rider in two feature films, then voicing Spider-Man Noir in 2018’s animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. However, while talking about his further involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Cage told Variety that he does not need to be in the MCU.
Seems like he will be back. Nicolas Cage is reportedly in talks to star in the live-action Spider-Man Noir show, a live-action Marvel series set against the backdrop of 1930s New York City. At present, there is no plot details have been out about the new Spider-Man Noir show, but getting Nicolas Cage on board will surely give hype to the show.
Nicolas Cage Is Reportedly In Talks for Spider-Man Noir Show
Reports suggest that a live-action Spider-Man show is in the works with none other than Nicolas Cage starring in the leading role. The Ankler broke the news, saying Cage is “in serious talks” for the lead role, seemingly reprising the part he played in the animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
It’s one of two projects based on Sony’s Marvel characters setup at Prime Video the other being Silk: Spider Society.
Though no major sources have confirmed this news as of now, if it happens, this would be Cage’s career first in a TV show as a leading role. The only time he was related to TV work was when he appeared as the host of Netflix’s History of Swear Words documentary.
Earlier, it was reported that Steven Lightfoot, the showrunner for Marvel’s The Punisher would act as executive producer and co-showrunner for Prime Video’s Spider-Man Noir TV series, working alongside writer Oren Uziel.
Nicolas Cage Once Gave Hint of Disinterest in Superhero and Comic Book Movies
Nicolas Cage, an Oscar-winner, SAG awardee, and Golden Globe recipient has given us a wide variety of films in his illustrious career ranging from action to drama to comedy. However, while receiving the Variety Legend and Groundbreaker awards at the Miami Film Festival last year he made one thing very clear.
Ghost Rider 2 grossed $132.6 million, against its $57–75 million production budget. When asked about any possibility of seeing Ghost Rider in the MCU, the actor said:
“I don’t need to be in the MCU, I’m Nic Cage,” according to Variety.
And then he added on about the state of superhero movies today,
“I understand what the frustration is. I get it. But I think there’s plenty of room for everybody. I’m seeing movies like ‘Tár.’ I’m seeing all kinds of artistic and independently driven movies. I think there’s plenty of room for everybody.”
The Leaving Las Vegas star named one of his sons Kal-El, showing a sort of mutual respect for both Marvel and DC.
