Nicholas Cage finally spoke about his brief but overdue appearance as Superman in Ezra Miller’s The Flash, even offering some unfavorable criticism of the scene. A Superman Lives movie was once planned to be released in 1998. The hero would have been portrayed by none other than Cage. The potential casting of the actor as Superman in the DC Multiverse film series would have significant effects on both the film and the superhero genre as a whole.

With Cage in the lead and Tim Burton in charge of the visual effects, it has been said that the film had the potential to forge a new path in pop culture and alter the course of superhero film history.

Nicolas Cage Criticized The Flash’s Superman Cameo?

In the 1990s, Tim Burton’s canceled Superman movie, Superman Lives, was slated to have Nicolas Cage play the role of Superman. Finally, Cage made his long-awaited Superman debut in The Flash, but simply as a brief cameo. He recently discussed his feelings regarding his limited screen time in an interview with USA Today.

Although he acknowledged that it was “satisfying” to finally play the role, 25 years after his standalone Superman film was shelved:

“Well, I was glad I didn’t blink. For me, it was the feeling of being actualized. Even that look for that particular character, finally seeing it on screen, was satisfying. But as I said, it’s quick.”

The Superman Lives universe only made an appearance in The Flash for about 30 seconds, and Cage’s face was only visible for a small portion of the time.

Multiple Cameos in The Flash

It is simple to understand how fulfilling it must be for Nicholas Cage to recognize himself on screen after a long due. Therefore, even for fans, it must have been incredible to witness his Superman, who has long been absent from popular culture.

Even though Cage only made a fleeting appearance, The Flash shocked viewers when Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) caught a glimpse of the multiverse and several different iterations of DC’s roster of heroes. Along with Christopher Reeves’ Superman, Helen Slater’s Supergirl, and Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang, there were also digital recreations of Adam West’s Batman and George Reeves’ Superman.

For those who are unaware, The Flash was a box office dud, and Warner Bros. Discovery was estimated to have lost around $200 million as a result, despite the amount of marketing the studio used to promote it.

The film received mixed reviews from critics, with some hailing its moving story and others criticizing its shoddy writing and visual effects (VFX) work.

Nevertheless, despite having a $200–$220 million production budget, Andy Muschietti’s film managed to gross $268 million worldwide.
