The latter is always exciting, with people making many predictions of what they hope to see announced at the event. These predictions are usually for existing franchises and titles, but it’s the completely fresh games that always spark the greatest conversations. Nightdive Studios may be gunning for that goal with their latest teaser.

Nightdive Studios is Bringing Some ‘Thing’ Interesting to Summer Game Fest

A horror classic is coming from the Antarctic to Summer Game Fest.

Nothing hits quite like a good horror game. They are few and far between, but the ones that do it well go down in gaming history and even become genre-defining titles. Some iconic horror titles that come to mind are Silent Hill, Dead Space, and Amnesia, but these merely scratch the surface. Every year we get new additions, and now Nightdive Studios is jumping into the mix.

In a recent tweet via their official X handle, the studio teased they would be announcing a new game this Friday. Along with this tweet, we have an image of what appears to be a face covered by a thin layer of organic matter. The image, as has been discussed in the replies to the tweet, is a reference to John Carpenter’s 1982 horror movie The Thing.

One of the most well-known titles in cinema history, The Thing, follows the story of a group of researchers inhabiting a base in Antarctica who are attacked by an alien creature. This entity can imitate other life forms after consuming them, leading to mass paranoia and panic.

The recent PlayStation State of Play showed us new footage of the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, and now we have news of a legacy horror movie getting some form of video game adaptation. Nightdive did not offer any more information regarding the type of game they are making, and we will have to wait for Friday to learn more.

Summer Game Fest is Bringing Big Titles Under One Roof

Friday will add a new game to every horror fans wishlist.

The event is intended for third-party studios to make big reveals that would otherwise not have a spot in a PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo event. With reports of 2K Games bringing Borderlands 4, many gamers must be excited for the event, but not everyone. We know games such as GTA 6, Half-Life 3, and Judas won’t be making an appearance.

People are no doubt speculating what genre of horror Nightdive’s soon-to-be-revealed title will be. If the game is a remake of the 2002 PlayStation 2 title of the same name, we can expect a third-person survival shooter experience similar to Dead Space and Alan Wake.

Another possibility would be to create an experience such as Until Dawn or The Quarry, where player decisions are key to advancing the story. It could also create avenues for a game with multiple endings based on these decisions.

What genre of game would you like The Thing to fall under? Let us know in the comments below!
