However, many players and artists generally oppose the use of AI due to its potential to disrupt the jobs of numerous talented individuals that companies are replacing with AI-generated assets.

In a recent statement, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa spoke about how the company will not use generative AI for its first-party games.

This stance is quite positive for the industry, as Nintendo remains one of the world’s largest video game companies and is actively stating that it will not use this controversial technology. There are other companies that are doing the opposite of this Japanese giant.

Furukawa also clarified that the reason for not using artificial intelligence is primarily to avoid the company being unable to claim IP rights. One of the drawbacks of utilizing this technology is the inability to claim any generated content as proprietary.

From the beginning, the company has been very protective of all its IPs and is against any other companies sharing its creations illegally without permission.

This stance, beyond protecting its own IP, is very positive for the industry, as it shows how a large company does not need to use this technology. Instead, it continue to employ talented artists who can do the job even better.

I'm a big fan of movies and videogames in general. I really love Pokémon and Godzilla. One of my favorite games is The Last of Us, Part II. A compelling and well-written story is always welcome.
