The combat in the game is a turn-based battle system—the screen layout changes when Mario comes in contact with enemies and bosses. Mario can also jump on the enemy to land the first strike on the enemy before the combat actually starts.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is set in the Mushroom Kingdom. The hub world connecting all the other parts of the world is called Rogueport. The story is broken down into eight chapters, along with a prologue sequence. The game also allows Mario to be accompanied by one assistant character at a time, which can then be switched later on.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Mario RPG aren’t the only upcoming games for the Nintendo Switch. Many games are scheduled for the Nintendo console as Nintendo’s next isn’t reported to hit the shelves till late 2024.
